Why is every auto parts and hardware store prejuidice against hardened metric bolts? I mean, WTF do they think cars are made of these days freaking duct tape?

Does anybody know where to buy a good assortment of hardened metric bolts?

I get all my stuff from BoltDepot.com. I've spent a small fortune on stuff from these guys. The usually have most items in stock, unusual sizes might take a little longer to get.

Ace hardware normally has them.

But yea, hardware stores are getting ****ing retarded these days.. You can't seem to find quality anything there anymore.. And/or everything is so idiot proof it doesn't work..

I haven't tried ACE.

Been to Murray's, Auto Zone, Advance, Home Depot. It's like I want to call their corprate headquarters to see if they might be interested in selling bolts that are actually made for automobiles in their auto parts stores.

If I'm not mistaken most domestics use metric bolts these days - but the few they carry are not hardened. Like I'm going to use a standard soft metal bolt anywhere on my car.

I tend to get my nuts and bolts from my local true value. The larger hardware stores tend to be aimed more towards the home improvement and repair market rather than automobiles.

I thought that a MEtric 8 hardness is the same? One of my instructors at NADC was going on about measurements for bolt strenght. Either way what do you need them for, cuz 8's should cover most automotive applications.

Thanks for all the leads guys.

Metric bolts are stamped 8.8 or something if they are Grade 5 and 10.9 if they are grade 8. You want grade 8 (10.9) for automotive.

Our cheapest bolts are 8.8 strength, 10.9 is strong but I prefer 12.9.Most euro cars use 10.9 strenth in engines and suspension from factory.

We can buy most dimensions in all grades here, M10 and M12 bolts in 12.9 rocks for race engines.Hit me up if you want a GB some day.
