Hey guys I have a 96 Hardbody 4cyl 2wd. My transmission went nuts and decided to turn into a self contained blender of steel. My question is can I put a 240sx transmission in the truck? If so what year mods etc. I have researched this before posting with no luck. I appreciate the help guys/gals...__________________

Im assuming its a 5 speed? If so, the 240sx transmission is about 4-5 inches longer and a driveshaft will need to be fabbed, plus the shifter relocated. Other than that yes it bolts right up to your engine and you will need a 240sx starter as well. peace.

I did find out about the length and shifter location, I also heard about the front shaft having to be shortened as well.

THIS IS WHAT SOME OTHER USER GAVE ME AS INFO:Yes you can, I did it to my truck. You need to use the 240 flywheel and clutch assy also. I have a spare 240 flyweel if needed, but the shifter is going to sit farther back and you will either need to cut the bench seat to clear the shifter or get bucket seats. It bolts on and even uses the stock transmission mount location. The driveshaft will need to be shortened, the front shaft needs to be shortened 3" so the carrier bearing will be in the stock position and another 4" out of the rear shaft if its a regular cab and not extended cab. Heres a pic of the inside of my truck, note the shifter location

it'd be a ton easier to bolt another truck transmission into it.

There are so many conflicting reports on this transmission. I know it will fit, the conflict is what mods need to be made. So I will probably stick to stock, unless there is a write up somewhere...ANYONE? I wanted the 240 trans for the different gears and the fact that they are like 50-100 bucks due to all the swaps going around.

DAMMIT! I need to do an official picture post wit vids or something to keep the misinformation floating about. DONT ever go to the 240 flywheel and clutch assembly unless you really have to. The PP is not as strong and it is a smaller diameter, if you want a lighter flywheel then buy one from fidanza. I cant stand the people who put 240 clutches and flywheels in there pickup, MAKES ZERO SENSE. lol! The driveshaft info he provided however is correct, but he forgot to mention the starter when using the 240 transmission. peace.
