ok, ive got a customer with a 95 hardbody show truck and we're wanting to do some cleanup work in his engine bay. the fuel emissions equipment wont be a problem to remove, but the smog pump i have a few questions about. it is fuel injected and i dont know if its gonna affect anything else about the computer system. if it will is there a way to fix it or a new program that can be installed? any help would be great! thanks a lot!

welcome to nico. The 95 D21 does not use a smog pump. so some clearity hear would be good. You have 3 accesory pulleys on there. The altenator, P/s pump and A/C compressor. What is it your after?

well, i was guessing that it was smog related, its in the ds fender in the engine bay and just assumed thats what it was cause had a line coming in from the header. if thats not what it is then what is it? we would still like to remove it if we can

It sounds like you talking about a pulse air system, but as I recal the 95 didnt have one of those either. You got a digital camera you could possibly take a picture of this thing to verify. Since it has a pipe coming from the manifold I am assuming you have it. You can remove it but you got to plug the pipe coming from the manifold and put a air filter on the air inlet to the air box.

that sounds exactly like it to me. what the heck did it do? i havent seen any of those on american cars that ive worked on. so its not gonna hurt anything to remove it? and will an aftermarket header (pacesetter) have that same hole to plug? we're just trying to clean up the engine bay abit and dont want to screw up how the engine runs. thanks a lot for your help!

Alot of the 240 guys remove them too. They supply air to the exhaust on cold start up to help reduce HC and CO since the engine does not burn as effecient cold. It actually makes the exhaust hotter till it reaches operating temp then it diverts to the air out through the filter on the side of the can.
