hardbody rear end swap from 4x4 to 2wd?

does the hardbody 4x4 rear end have a lower gear ratio than the 2wd. I lifted and put 31's on my 97 2wd and threw thew ratio way off and was wondering if i could just swap the whole axle out with that of a 4x4. I'm guessing it has a lower ratio cuz it came with larger tires stock. or maybe another trucks rear end that will work maybe something with 4.11:1 ratio. anyone?

Axle info is in the sticky thread near top of this forum. I think a 4x4 axle might be a bit wider, but I'm not totally sure.
