Hard wired portable GPS?

I have a portable Garmin GPS unit that I'd like to hard wire into my Rogue. I was thinking I could install another 12V socket into the center console, but even then it would still be "plugged" in. I'm hoping to avoid that (as well as hoping to avoid purchasing a new head unit with built in GPS - especially since I installed a new head unit several months ago and am pretty happy with it). I'm also hoping that if this works out I can hard wire the plug for my phone. I'm simply trying to eliminate the plugs and wires. Has anyone tried this? If so, where did you run your wires to? Any info would be appreciated.

I was really lazy and just paid $50 for Best Buy to hard wire my GPS. I had a Garmin in my previous Rogue and am now using a TomTom in my present Rogue. The $50 includes removing the unit as well if you need to have it taken out for any reason. I have it placed in the lower left-hand corner and the wire is hidden in the A-pillar. The beauty of the Garmin is that it will turn itself on and off with the ignition. My new TomTom doesn't do that, but I still prefer it anyways.

Here's one way to connect your gps to dome light and the other way you could run the wire either from ignition or 12V+ from cd player so it will turn on only when you turn the key (this is the way in my car these days):

I haven't hard wired a GPS in the Rogue but I did hardwire a couple of cell phone docks using an Add-A-Circuit.

Thanks for the responses. Since posting I searched around and found a few different options available (http://www.amazon.com/Gilsson-Direct-Ga ... d_sim_e_18,http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Hardwire-C ... B001M09L20). I think either of these combined with the Add-A-Circuit kit will make this a very easy project. Again - thanks!

I have a Garnin Nuvi 650 that I did not like to keep stuck on the winshield so I paid CARTOYS $100 to make a mount and make a premanant installation. It turned out OK except they screwed up the AC vent and left the hazard switch unplugged. Thanks to my Nissan dealer, they corrected all of the screwups and now I have an almost factory installed GPS on the dash.
