I've got a 2008 g37s with the navigation system. I'm looking to hard wire a valentine one radar detector in to the car somewhere. I don't want any cords shown or nothing. This is my first expensive car to work on so I'm a little leery as to how to go tearing in to this. I've done plenty of work on my trusty dodge but it ain't quite as nice as this car. Any tips on how to go about doing this? Thanks.

Hey there and Welcome to NICO!

Great choice on the G37, It's my personal favorite.

If you are not confident in your abilities you may want to pay someone to install it and ensure that it has a warranty.

I do not know exactly how you would do it I do not think it is very complicated since its basically just a power supply and ground that are needed. The body panels do not take kindly to abuse though and are easily damaged. IMO it would be better to have it be someone elses responsibility.

Good Luck, Keep us posted on what you decide to do, some of us cannot have them

Thanks. I just got the car last weekend but with my job it has to sit parked from sunday evening to friday evening (I work construction in San Angelo). Sucks cause I love this car.

Any recommendations on where to have it installed? I'm confident I could do it, just need some help along the way. But then again, maybe I just need to keep my hands off this car and let the pro's do it. Do you think best buy would be a good place? It's the only place I could think of.

Hey Quick. The V-1 hardwired is pretty easy to do yourself if you have a little knowledge of your fuse box. The fuse box is located to the left of your clutch pedel or dead pedel. I dont have any pics at this time but I can try to basically walk you through this install.

First, Install the V-1 to the windshield or rear view mirror. If you dont have it already I would recommend the rear view mirror mount found here.http://www.countryjoycrafts.co...r.htmMake sure you get the correct size diameter for your car.

Next plug in the phone cord to the V1 and run it under the headliner toward the drivers side door. You will have to remove two screws that hold the visor in place.

Next, Grab the drivers side pillar and pull toward you. It is attached with clips and will pop off.

Next, I used a hanger and pushed it through the corner of the drivers side dash down to where the fuse box is located. Attach the V-1 cable to the hanger and fish it down.

The v-1 package should come with a splice piece and I attached and tapped into the the aux cig lighter fuse power cable. For the ground, I just found any screw mounted in the area and grounded it to a metal spot next to the fuse block.

Now before putting it all back together make sure the v-1 turs on with the key. If all is good fix the cable with some zip ties and put the headliner and viser back together, then the drivers side pilar. Good luck. It is not that hard to do this install yourself. If you have any questions, let me know.Wes

Very nice. I didn't figure it was to hard. I'm just nervous about tearing in to a 2 week old car with just 400 miles on it. HAHA. Thanks for the help.

My sedan doesn't have factory nav, I wonder if it's possible to wire up the detector in that compartment above the radio... totally secret and easy to conceal... tee hee

Here, this should help. It's not for the G37 specifically, but the the concept is the same.

Thanks Sentinal, But this does not help at all for the V-1 hardwired kit. I have installed two so far and they are very easy. Simple bolts and screws. The hardest part for the mechanically un-inclined is reading the fuse box layout and figuring which power supply to attach to.

Also this is not invisible, Its there, but if you want this mounted on your rear view mirror and not your windshield with suction cups or cords dragging across the windshield I would consider rearview mirrow mount. I am not promoting this. I just have installed this with this mount twice and it is worth the extra dollar. TRUST ME!

I hardwired my V1 into the cigarette lighter. You can run the V1 ground wire anywhere (I used the metal piece that goes underneath the steering column when you take off the bottom panel below the steering column). Then I just pulled up the shifter panel/boot, and fished the wire up to the cigarette lighter. There's 2 wires on the lighter. I forget which color is power, but you can use a T-pin and volt meter to check it. I want to say it was a purple wire, but can't remember for sure.

I found this much easier than going to the fuse box because it involved lest testing to find a power source. I only had 2 wires to test. Anyway, hope that helps.

Now that's a slick little device. I just ordered the detector. Maybe once I get it and have a chance to do some thinking I'll look at the mounts and that cord. Thanks for the help yall. I'll let yall know how it all goes.
