just bought a 92 KA24DE with a 5-speed with 148K miles and it wasnt driven much from the previous owner. just removed the timing guides with new plugs and coil. anyways i just got home and earlier on i was shifting through the gears nice and slow. on the way home i decided to shift a bit more aggressive. well bad move it seemed as when i slowed down around a corner to like 10mph to 2nd gear, i noticed when i applied the clutch and tried to shift into 3rd it wouldnt go, tried 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse and it wouldnt budge .

so i costed off into the shoulder and turned off teh car. i was able to shfit through all the gears without issues. when i applied the clutch to start the car it seemed like it was studdering or not grabbing and i had to mash the clutch all the way to the floor to ensure i could shift into 1st. well i had to turned off the car, shift into 1st and fired the car up with 1st in the process, and slowly released the clutch and applied gas and there was a bit of grinding but the car was moving again and i was able to shift into the gears, but it felt a bit hard getting into and out of gear.

im currently searching as much as possible, but any tips and advice is greatly appreciated. a few locals said to check the slave cylinder since the car wasnt driven much from the previous owner and a tune-up is much needed.

i had a friend look at the master cylinder while i engaged the clutch and it was moving as i applied pressure, the same deal with the salve cylinder as he was looking at it under the car when i applied the clutch(car off FWIW). is it posible the clutch needs to be replaced?

also FWIW when i got it to shift when i started it in 1st gear to go home, the clutch was grabbing/engaging like a half inch upon releasing the clutch which remained how it was when i bought it.

There is a good chance that your master or slave might just abe a little old and need to be worked on or replaced, but I did have a similar issue and my clutch engae point was way to far in. easy solution is to adjust the clutch piont. There is a shaft behind the pedal that can be adjusted with help of the good ol 10 mm wrench. thats all I had to do.

a friend adjusted it a bit but still no good. i put the shfiter into 1st gear then started the car, with clutch pressed down and as i turned over the car and it fired up, i heard a humming sound. im in the process of getting the transmission swapped out with a 110K mileage 96 transmission along with a 10K mileage centerforce clutch tomorrow along with new fluid and a new slave cylinder. im having a local reputable shop do the work. i know, im wasting money but at this point i need a running car and need to get this car inspected to drive legally while i work on my other DD thats now having issues(prolly a failing lifter ).

do this for me:

start on FLAT, open land with the car in nuetral and no p/brake start the carshift into 4th gear and try to go like you would in 1st

if the engine revs: buy a new clutch kit

if the engine stalls/dies check your hydrolic clutch lines for crimps, binds etc.since the car sat the dot3 couldve absorbed water/debris.icr if you did or not but try to bleed new dot3 into your clutch system.

BEFORE you replace the transmission itself go to advanced and pick up the Lucas Manual transmission oil. drain old oil, fill with lucus.

hope this helps; please keep me updated :D
