A heart-breaking and eye-opening look at the problem of homelessness and how it is affecting parents and their children in central Florida. :frown:
It's worth the time.

Saw that segment on 60 minutes. Florida is just an awful place to be right now. The largest employment segment is service based, and with most people cutting back on service related activities- theme parks, charter fishing, dining out, there isn't much to keep everyone else employed. Not to mention that NASA just closed down along with decreased business from their suppliers (lockheed martin, Harris, etc) which leaves your higher wage earners without jobs or forces them to relocate.
Florida is in the same dump as Detroit right now. The auto industry should move down there.

It's not much better into Georgia. Foreclosures are everywhere and I haven't been able to find a job anywhere in almost a year. With a degree, I either disqualify myself because of being overqualified, or having no experience. The island I live on is majorly tourism and service based and there's not really much of it going on, especially now that we are entering the slow season of fall/winter.

I know a lot of people having this problem. Employers are weird about paying people less than they're "worth" and don't seem to understand that some money is better than no money.

^This. People understand that they are over-qualified. They don't care. They just want to work. I know someone who had a degree and couldn't find work because of this same reason. Then he started modifying his resume. He left off the part about having a master's degree in engineering and was hired within a month.
