check the level of the power steering fluid, check the belt.

if its not that, maybe the pump.

The pump that almost never fails? vs. the pump pressure bypass controller or solenoid which does.

After losing massive amounts of fluid a while ago, my pump now makes a nice whine. But it works and feels like OEM. I bet youre leaking fluid. I also read about a rare problem with some rack/column issue?

Check the fluid (measure when warmed up).
