Hello, About a week ago the steering tightened up on my wifes '89 240, s13. The reservoir was full, and no leaks anywhere and the lines I could see looked good. The lock to lock test did not give me the usual pump pressure bypass sound, so I swapped out the pump since I keep spares. No luck, still tight. Then I carefully cracked open the high pressure line, pump turning, with a wrench and fluid seeped out which tells me the pump has pressure. So before I spring for a new rack assy, is it worth a try to jack the car up, loosen the high pressure fitting, start the engine and see if there is pressure? I suspect that the rack center seal is blown since the pump bypass will not actuate. I can use comments from anyone with experience! Thanks guys, [email protected]

I would also assume that you need a new rack.
