hey all,

I am a newbie to this board, and 3 months in to renewing my love affair with the Z32. I sold nissans for several years, and always wanted one, but never got one. I recently acquired 2. A 91 N/A, and a 94 TT. The N/A has recently started being hard to start. I did a fuel pressure test on it tonight, and I took the covers off the pump and sending unit, no leaks. I got underneath and looked around, no leaks. I checked on top of the intake near all the injectors by sight and by smell, no leaks. Checked the pulse damper, no leak. Changed the regulator (2 days ago, it was leaking) No leaks under the hood anywhere. 44-45 psi at wot, 34-35 psi at idle. But it drops to zero within about 2 seconds of turning the car off. It does this little pssshhh thing about 30 seconds after I start it that is quiet, but audible, and it is coming from the fuel pump and sending unit somewhere. 55 code, 02 sensors working fine, no rich condition on either bank. I am beginning to think that it has to be the check valve in the pump. Oh, one other thing, right when I turn the car off, the fuel pump runs just a blip when the ignition is switched off, which raises the pressure momentarily to about 44 psi, then it drops down to nothing. Does anyone know if the check valve in the fuel pump can be replaced, or do I have to replace the whole pump? thanks guys...

Those are some sweet rides! Yo, have you changed your fuel filter lately? How about your fuel pump (change around 60k). My fuel pump started trippin (hard starts, fuel injector failure) before the swarm of angry bees started comming out of my trunk. More than likely a combination of a few things. If you think its your fuel pump, dont mess around and change the whole thing unless you like to mess with things three and four times. Start with the cheap stuff; check your plugs for fouling. You can dry out your fuel system (flooding) by pulling the fuel pump fuse and letting the car die. Then let your pimped out shiny vessel sit for a while and see if it starts any easier. Peace, smooth baby
