Hard shifting

Ok, now before you send me to the search bar, I've looked.

I'm also introducing myself. I'm in the process of buying a '90 hatch, and I have a concern. I've been driving standard for the last couple years and this is my first auto. It's also my first asian (HA!).

Question is this. Do the auto transmissions normally shift hard? It's doesn't feel harsh, just not like the other autos i've been in. If it is something wrong, i've got a 5 speed parts car comming with the other (YEAH!)

The 1st to 2nd shift is normally firmer then the other shifts. Not to worry.
