I have a 1990 300ZX 2+2 that I have owned since I purchased it in 1990. It hasn't been my daily driver for a number of years, but I love to take it out now and then. It has 180,000 miles on it. The transmission was overhauled about 80,000 miles.
My transmission started acting up a month or so ago. At first I thought that it was slipping between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd, but now I'm beginning to wonder if it is shift solenoids instead.
It just started (this past week) staying in first much longer than it should before dropping into 2nd. Actually, if I let up on the gas, it will shift. It appears to shift from 1st to 3rd with a split second stay in 2nd gear.
How can I tell if it is the solenoids or not. If it is the solenoids and not the clutch plates, would the computer throw off any codes?
