My friend has a 89 Hatch AUTO(same thing as my) that has a prob of hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear for some reason after 2nd it run fine. and in the morning the car die if you don't press the gas for about 1-2sec after you start it or after you put it in R!

it sounds like you have a combination of problems here. first start by checking the fluid level and condition in the trans. if this is ok try adjusting your tps. there is a procedure in FAQ's for this adjustment. after doing this check your coolant temp it may be registering to warm in the moring causeing it to run to rich. but you could have a bad cold start air valve. you can tell this by noting the idle speed on start up cold. If it is not at least 1200 to 1500 rpms I would take a look at your IAC(idle air control valve) and your FICD (fast idle control device) this will either be a wax kit attached to your throttle body or a electric bimetal valve located under the intake runner between cyl 3 and 4. check all that then if not resolved post your test results.

The ATF looks good, And The car idle at 1500 in the morning, after you push for gas for 1-3 sec. After it warm up it go back down to 700-800RPM!

you may have a leaking injector which is flooding the cyl. check your tps still should be real close to .5 volts at closed position.

I had an almost identical problem. I checked the transmission oil level and it was low. I drained and refilled the transmission and it has worked perfectly since.

Also, I forgot (or was too embarassed to add) but in my case the transmission had been filled with "high performance" manual transmission oil. This was a higher viscosity than recommended. Using the recommended 90wt also helped. Just goes to show that just because it says "Racing" doesn't make it good for everything. Still it only seemed to effect the 1st to 2nd shift.

Hey Charlie are you talking about a 5 speed tran or a Auto? Because my is a Auto! And 80-90W is what I use on my Coupe 5Speed.
