hey guys whats up?

I have a 1990240sx ka24e.(auto) It does have an exhaust leak somewhere around the cat. Anyways

It doesnt want to shift into second, well it does, but it holds back and then hard shifts into it. It only does this for that gear. the rest of the ride is fine. I do feel a loss of power. Is this due to the exhaust leak, or is it something worse?

ps ;; I didnt check the usual transmission fluid, and for mixture in fluids...all of them are fine.

PLEASE HELP!

You need to run some Seafoam deep clean through that transmission, you got a build up or a mechcanical issue.

Exhaust leak wouldn't cause that... the transmission is controlled by TPS and RPM inputs.

Fix your exhaust leak before it burns up your exhaust valves.

no it doesnt grind at all.

well i just ran out with the ol chiltons manual,( I am not stupid, but i am a beginer with engine workings). Looks like there is alot of corrosion around the last fuel injector (one closest to the front end. It also has a small leak coming from it. It doesnt look like it would be much to puel the injector and replace it. Is this the problem, and how hard would it be for me to replace the injectors.

I started to have that problem on a 92 I had a while back. The fix was swaping it to a 5-speed. Accually never found a fix and dealt with it. It got to the point where I had to step off of the petal and let it shift. I also had overdrive problems too. Auto trans can be pick up fairly cheap, check the nico classifieds and local junkyards. Sounds like your car needs a major tune up. pull the injector clean the connection wist some electrical cleaner asap and get new o-rings for the injectors. There is also a Nissan online Mechanic section if you have any more unanswered questions. Nick

transmission filter, replace and hopefully it'll fix it. If its never had one replaced then expect a new transmission soon. Luckily I happen to have an extra auto layin around...

it has nothing to do with the engine, you aren't getting enough fluid pressure in the transmission. be it low fluid, clogged filter, bad pump, leak.... check you transmission fluid (do it correctly, if you don't know how, just speak up). if everything seems to be perfect (you check/change the filter, make sure she's getting fluid properly) it could be a bad band. it has absolutely nothing to do with your exhaust, injectors or any of that other stuff. you won't have a mixture of fluids being that no other fluids are there to mix.

what do you mean by check the transmission fluid properly? Is there a special way to do this? I am pretty new at this. I just checked the dipstick, and it was at a good level, and the consistence and color was also good.

How will an exhaust leak(near the cat) burn up the exhaust valves?

the easiest way for you to do it by yourself is to start the car, hold the brakes, shift into reverse all the way down to first, giving the transmission enough time to engage each time, then put it in neutral, pull the e-brake THEN go check the fluid. the reason for this is, if you don't, then the fluid won't be filling pumps and running through valve bodies and whatnot and will give you a higher reading than actual. hope this helped.
