Just wondering if it's normal for the gas pedal to be hard to press? Once you get it to where you want it travels easy for a couple inches down or up but you have to push it hard to accelerate. On the plus side, you are forced to baby it. 17 MPG city 22 combined 18 mile work cruise chicago surburban driving. My son is taking it to U of I so we will see what he gets (He got 36 MPG on my 04 Malibu HWY). He's a good hypermiler.

If it's a cable throttle, either the cable is in some way restricted; corrosion, a kink, or the throttle plate is having problem moving. If it's an e-throttle, the pedal itself has a problem. Either way, you need to check it immediately. What if one day it decides it likes where it's at and locks open? You would feel like a Toyota owner.

Have you cleaned the throttle bodies recently? Sometimes they get gummed up and stick a little.

I haven't as the car starts great and hasn't missed a beat but when it gets a bit warmer I planned on doing a little underhood maintenance and cleaning. Thanks for the reminder.

To the madscientist! I really do feel like a Toyota owner who just received the first "recall" of the floor mat! I feel like a moron! my youngest used the car and moved the floormat by accident and I puuled it out to clean it off and it was jammed and rolled under the accelerator. Pulled it out and works fine. The Toyota crack should have jogged the mind to check it.
