I have a 2010 Versa Hatchback, auto, and no VDC. The car has about 3200 miles on it. Last week I noticed that the brake pedal was kind of hard. In fact when I had my foot on the brake while I started the car, there was no change in the pedal. In other words, no power assist kicked in when the car started. I planned to take the car to the dealer today for an oil change and ask them about it. Wouldn't you know it, after having this problem for a week, today it disappeared. When I started it, the pedal got softer and I could tell that I had power assist when braking. The brake fluid is at proper level. I asked the service tech about it and he said that without the problem occurring at the moment it would be hard to tell what was going on and that I could make an appointment to have it checked out. Anyone else have/had this problem? It's fine now, should I have them tear into it or wait till it happens again?

It can be scary if you lose power brakes while you are driving. At the very least, I'd replace (or ask them to replace) the inline check valve going to the brake booster... who knows, it may be stuck. After that, you'd be looking at replacing the booster.
