hello all, i have owned a 04 350z for about a year now.. i just replaced both valve covers due to a two leaky grommets.. i was extremely careful and made sure everything i disconnected was reconnected.. before starting work i even disconnected the battery.. i just recently done this job and did a test drive and it worked like a dream just like i remembered it.. and tonight i was driving it and accelerated relatively hard and the car like completely shut down.. it wouldn't rev past 2000-2500 rpms and would not accelerate at all i had to pull off of the road and shut the vehicle down.. after about 10 or so seconds of me sitting there like WTF?!?!?! i attempted to start the car and it started right up and i took off.. and this didn't happen again doing a few hard accerlerations.. i got to another stop in my journey.. shortly after i left i was trying to figure out what was wrong with the car and decided to do some hard accelerations.. and it happened again so i did the same thing when it happened the first time.. turning around and just driving kind of normally.. while turning the vehicle the car kind of did the same thing but sputtered really bad and again i had to pull off to the side of the road and shut the car off again.. i again waited about 10-15 secs. started the car again and it worked just fine.. did some hard accelerations and nothing happened.. still running like i remember.. i read about a fail safe thing in the car where the pedal and what the ecu is reading in acceleration will cause the car to do something like this.. idk if it was it but i am extremely concerned and want to figure out what is wrong since this is my baby and i would hate for anything to happen to my car. any help is extremely grateful! thank you in advance

sounds like the tires broke loose a little and traction control kicked in

The base model does not have TCS/VDC.

so could the car have gone into a fail safe mode possibly? cause ive done multiple hard accelerations just to try and see if it would do it again.. at what rpm, what i was doing at the time(turning going up a hill down a hill) anything and it worked completely fine..

it could but it would be very very unusual for it to be a freak one time thing. certain conditions must be met for that to happen and shouldnt be hard to replicate it if somethings wrong.

only other thing i could think of is if you had recently washed the car or it rained. sometimes if the boot going from the engine bay to inside the car for the harness isnt sealed completely water will run down the harness into the ecu connector.

Wonder if the ECU reset and throttle re-learn might help.

Jerry?

i doubt it, since he had the issue once there has to be something going on that was very specific in that instance, other wise it would do it all the time. i know its common for people to cut the hole in the grommet above the ecu for wires to run through which is why i mentioned the rain/water thing which will send the ecu to limp home mode. if it was a relearn thing replicating the conditions should have replicated the issue.
