So I was drivin' with my girlfriend to the movies yesterday, and I hit the gas to have fun and go around a few people. Just before I got to the turn, my power steering went out and my battery light and brake light flicker on. I muscle through the turns to the parking lot and pop the hood. Wouldn't you know it, the new belts I just put on are not on. I'm sitting here worried I just blew out my alternator. Upon further inspection, I realize it was not the serpentine belt that runs the alternator but it was the smaller belt running the A/C that has been shredded. Somehow the force of that coming apart must have moved the alternator belt off track because that is still together.

Weird right??

Guess I have to put a new belt on the A/C now....

Sounds like it was your girlfriend's fault, make her pay for the new belt.

what else does the A/C belt run?

Is there any reason for this belt to be moving??

Cuz I don't know how it could knock my alternator belt off if it shouldn't even be in motion....

I actually had my mechanic put them on for me since I was getting the transmission fluid changed out on his lift.

Its a very simple switch, I just don't understand how it snapped!!

it all started when my alternator belt snaped and broke the a/c belt (or maybe the other way around) and the bracket that holds the fan on the engine block slipped( bearing broke) and sliced my radiator...ever since I was having problems with my A/C belt...

Yes I know I should take it to the Steallership

haha

i sure hope not...if thats the case, i'm opting out of the relationship

So, here is what I found after getting under my car. The idler pulley had a bearing that sounded like it was going bad. Not too hard to test either. loosen the A/C belt idler pulley. pull the belt away and spin the pulley. If you hear anything, (mine had a very slight rattle of the bearing), then it should be replace. Otherwise you will get the same thing over and over...breaking belts.

I put my alternator belt back on so i could drive around. Time to take it off and put both on now.

I got a new one online (infinitipartsonline.com) and a new belt cheaper than local and faster. Around $60 for the pulley.

I checked all the pulleys. They all sound and spin aswesome. the only question is i wasnt able to tell if the AC pulley is good. I think i might have to replace the pulley with the cluch
