So this morning was pretty dull and dreary. I woke up and it was pouring outside, and all I wanted to do was go back to bed. I force myself up and get ready for work so I can make it to the weekend. I am running late but I manage to get out the door in time to make it to work on time.

I hustle over to my AC because it's raining pretty heavily. My windows are down. WTF? I was so angry. For some reason my coupe likes to put the windows down at random times. It's happened a few times before, but normally they are just down a few inches. Of course today it greets me with a present-- pouring rain and the windows are the whole way down. The alarm has gone off on it's own before, and I think the trunk lid has even popped once and subsequently drained my battery.

So anyways my car was drenched head to toe this morning. I ran inside and got a few towels and spent my ride to work wiping things down. I still managed to get to work on time, but not without a wet strip across my chest from the soaked seat belt.

So what can I do? I wasn't able to get my car completely dry obviously, and I don't want it to start to smell musty. Any suggestions on cleaning products or anything? Also, I want to take it to the dealer and have them fix whatever is causing all the windows/alarm/trunk to randomly go off. I even got a cover for my key fob to make it harder to press the buttons, but that hasn't changed anything. Every time I hear a car alarm go off at work I go outside because it's a good chance that it's my car flipping out. Do they have an electrical scanner at the dealership they would be able to diagnose this with? I obviously wouldn't be able to reproduce it, so is it a waste of time?

Anyways I'm wet, pissed off, and I need to do something about this. Suggestions?

Your windows roll down automatically if the unlock button is held down for like 5 seconds or something I think. They don't roll back up though. Could that have happened? I live in Maryland and it is pretty crappy outside. Bad way to start a Friday!

It's technically possible although you think you would feel some pressure in your pocket or something, like your keys jabbing you in the leg if your keys are being smooshed to the point that you are holding down a button for 5 seconds. Normally when these things happen it seems random to me, not while I'm putting things into or taking things out of my pocket, which is when you would think it would happen.

Also forgot to mention that I have the cloth interior. Nice and absorbent

Do you have kids? I know that has happened to me when my niece comes over.

Nope, no kids. My keys don't leave my pocket from the time I put my pants on in the AM to the time they come off in the PM. So it's definitely not someone else playing with the fob.

I've set my panic off a number of times with the fob in my pocket. I usually laugh at the moron who has the panic/alarm going off. Then I realize it was me. So I can definitely see the buttons being pressed in your pocket without you realizing it. What else do you keep on your key chain or in that pocket?

Also, the trunk being open should not drain your battery. After 10 minutes (IIRC), the dome lights/etc go off to make sure the battery doesn't die (I know this for a fact because it happened to me a number of times when I was installing my stereo). If you're battery has died from this before, you may have some other electrical issue with the car.

I CONSTANTLY hit the panic button whenever im carrying something from my car with the keys in my pocket.

Disconnect the battery for a bit and allow the "auto down" to be turned off...

I dont think it would happen again after that. Its possible theres some sort of electrical issue, but most likely that you are inadvertently pressing the button.

My keychain is really bare.. its just the key loop, about 2 keys, and a few of the plastic swipe passes for the gym/grocery store/etc, and then the Nissan fob. The only thing I ever keep in that pocket with my keys is my cell phone and spare change. I don't wear emo jeans, so it's generally roomy enough in my pocket

As far as the trunk, the story is that one night I had to go out to get something from my trunk. As I was walking up to my car I was hitting the trunk release button on my fob and I didn't hear it pop open. I thought my fob was broken until I got to the car and realized the trunk was already open. When I opened it fully, the light was off and stayed off. I didn't think much of it, got what I needed, and closed the trunk. The next morning, I went to start up my car and it wouldn't start. It took about 8 or so tries but eventually it cranked up. This was during the winter when it was very cold. This was the only time I ever had difficulty starting my car, and it sounded like a battery issue. I assumed it was just that the trunk had remained open the night before until I went out to get something from it, and it had drained the battery. I haven't had any problems with the car starting or the trunk being open since then.

Disable the windows down via fob.

I dont wear emo tight jeans either dude I still hit the panic button all the time, and dial "Justin" and "Zack" with my blackberry in my pocket.

It doesnt take much pressure to hit the buttons dude, 99% says your pressin the buttons on accident!

You're probably right. The battery draining on the trunk release is a little curious though, and points somewhat to an electrical system issue. Most likely is just that I want to blame this on somebody else.

If I disconnect the battery, does that remove the in-car functionality for auto-windows down as well? I use that all the time. If so, maybe I'll just put the key fob cover on backwards-- I generally just leave it in my pocket and use the buttons on the door/trunk.

we had a member with the same problem but he got snow in the car the whole night. if was a problem, so he told the service manager at his dealership and they told him to leave the car for a day or two to see if the windows would roll down. lucky him they did so the dealership replaced the whole remote lock system for free and now his car is fixed.

I just might have to try this. And I just might have to drive by the dealership with my backup key fob at 2am and hold down the unlock button for 5 seconds.

Anyone have any advice on how to treat the seats? I just went out and wiped it down a bit more during a break and it's starting to smell a bit musty-- still raining too

haha, i was thinking of telling you to do that...just in case

I would tell you to just wait till you get home, open both the doors (sun roof too) and just air it out! If you have a couple fans, put those in there, and a dehudidifier also. Hopefully you have that garage because I would just leave it that way over night. Get a shop vac and press and vac, that would help.

As for cleaners...nothing liquid would work (that would just make it more wet!) You could try powders but I wouldn't...that would be a pain to vacumn back up... I would air it out as much as posible...wait for a week on the smell...if it still smells...go to Sam's and buy a 5 gallon conatiner of off brand Fabreeze and just go to town!

I aired my car out a bit over the weekend and it smells fine now. I still might get it detailed if I take it in for tints.

Update: This morning I came out to my car. Windows were down, again, the whole way down. Luckily it didn't rain last night so it was fine. Also, if I lived anywhere near a populated area I am sure my GPS, iPod, etc. would all have been stolen. This s*** is not cool!

Yep...that would be a big 'Take it in' there...
