As many of you know, I am a former Marine. Today, November 10th, is the birthday of my beloved Corps. I would like to wish the Corps Happy freakin birthday baby! I received a message from a freind who was similarly in the Marines and wrote a stirring birthday message which I present to you. Antiwar people, pacifists or people who might otherwise take advantage of this topic to mount their soapbox please refrain.
Over 200 years ago, God put forth in our homeland a group of men who wouldfight viciously for the fledgling Christian nation under which it wasfounded. Armed with a passion for for precision and lots and lots of beer, the United States Marine Corps became a reality thanks in large part to Godand a bunch of drunks who just couldn't stand to be classified as a typicalarmy.
Since that time, Marines have been on point for our nation: defending itsinterests and peoples abroad. We are the defenders of nations; we standsilently watching at posts and Embassies throughout this planet, we deployto foreign lands in defense of the oppressed, we vigilantly guard ournations most precious assets: it's people. What's more, we do it in theface of a largelly thankless and even violently-opposed world.
Yes, it is the average people of this world who do not appreciate the MarineCorps, but the list is long and distinguised of those who know us and whoare known: Al Qaeda, The Third Reich (Nazi Germany), Barbary Pirates(Libya), Imperial Infantry (Japan), Viet Cong, The People's Army of NorthKorea, Republican Guard (Iraq)... the list goes on and on of oppressors andmurderers who've tasted what the Marines have to offer and been utterlydestroyed because of it. This is what the Marine Corps gives to the world -peace through superior firepower.
So be thankful, Marines! There is a God and nation who love you. Bethankful, America! There is a selfless group of warriors whose sacrificegoes nearly unnoticed to protect you and yours. In times of desperation andnecessity, Marines have always gladly taken up the cause of right andcarried out the their duty.
So Happy Birthday to you, Marines! From one to another, give each other ahand of congratulations that you are our nation's best and continue to be sobecause of your selfless sacrifices and absolute professionalism.
God Bless, and Semper Fidelis.
