Happy 30th Birthday to my Z

Feb 2nd 1984 I took the keys of a 1984 non-turbo maroon 300ZX. I got both the Leather/Digital Package and the T-Tops which were really the only options other than the turbo package, which at age 23 I could not afford the car insurance on (it was going to be 5k a year for the Turbo insurance vs. 2300 for the non-turbo).

Amazingly I thought the day I bought the car that I would never sell it and so far so good. The car moved with me up to Mammoth Mountain for a year where I was a ski bum (it was parked most of the year as I drove a Fiat 1200 instead in the snow), back to San Diego for a Master's Degree at San Diego State, out to Phx, Arizona where I put 120k on it while working for the US Air Force and doing my Ph.D. at Arizona State. Then back to LA where in 1994 I made it a part time car after the January MLK earthquake broke Highway 10 in LA and didn't get it out of second gear for a week. Finally, it was moved in 1999 to Half Moon Bay, CA where it is a garage queen and gets driven Sundays and every couple of years back to LA for TLC at Z Expert in Venice.

Happy Birthday! Longest I've managed to hang onto a single car is my 240Z which I got back in late 02 and I still have and do not intend to part with. The other 53 cars come and go.

I have not really had all the many cars compared to most.

1977 Toyota Celica (sold in 84)
1984 300ZX (still in garage)
1972 Fiat 1200 (one year in snow country to save the Z from daily driving in snow)
1985 Nissan Maxima (132k on it, retired it with 297k)
1997 Q45t (still in garage)
2005 Nissan X-Terra (still in driveway)

So I still have 1/2 my cars...wife cars have come on gone 1990 Mits Galant, 1999 Nissan Sentra, now 2011 Leaf
