i'm thinking about getting a set of hankook R-S2s for my new track wheels. http://www.discounttiredirect....ar=50

another option would be dunlop fm901s. http://www.discounttiredirect....ar=50

i want as much grip as possible but they have to be above a 140 treadwear to stay in the same class in autoX. i also don't want to spend a fortune because i will probably drive these on the street a bit and i'll burn them up eventually. any comments on these tires? grip handling and price are my main criteria. would i be better off with something like the yoko es100? it has a higher treadwear but better name. i'm willing to take a risk on an unknown tire if no one has any experience with them.

my wheels are 16x8, i'm leaning towards 225/50 unless someone wants to suggest something different.

The Hankook is a replica of the good Kumho I saw on a customer's C5 a week ago.

Dunlop still isn't making the push into the serious DOT apporved competition tires like so many other tire makers.

Both are discount budget tires, meant to draw in the young crowd with low prices and decent wear.

Wear ratings are an arbitrary number the tire maker puts on the sidewall. Both tires offering a 200 wear rating means they 'should' grip well (200 being about average if not on the aggressive side) for the miles you get.

If you must stay at or above 140 then find a 140 tire, and forget about saving money because grip costs a fortune!

Check tirerack for Kumho Ecsta MX at $115eahttp://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes

What about Bridgestone Potenza RE750?http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes

how do you think the tires i posted compare to those you posted? i know would imagine they are better, but i race my car for fun, not prize money. if my car isn't as fast as it could ever possibly be, no big deal.

Roger that, and you make good sense. But when push comes to shove everybody I know or talk to wishes they could squeeze that last little bit of grip or drop that last hundredth of their 60' and the answer so many times comes to tires. We tend to tear down and disect every aspect of suspension, braking, and ultimate grip until it's a necessity to have the best grip that a decent wage can afford.. all in the hopes of getting better..so to answer, Hankook has come a long way but my money would go to Kumho.
