I say get a blue-tooth enable headunit. IMO it's the only way to go.Densetsu wrote:The county that I live in has passed a "No Hand-Held Cellphone Use" bylaw, which has just taken effect starting today. I hate earpieces and was hoping fellow Pathy users have had moderate success picking and installing a handsfree device that they were happy with.
Ideally, there would be no need for batteries and no cables running around, like the LG Bluetooth Solar device. Unfortunately, installation options are limited, since the speaker is on one side and the solar panel is on the other. It looks like the only way is to suction-cup it to the windshield, which (a) usually falls off and (b) shows off fancy gadgets to would-be thieves.
My best hope is probably to get a wired device, then run a 12v power supply under interior surfaces to wherever I mount it... probably the visor or behind the steering wheel. Besides the cigarette lighter, is there another place close to or under the dash where I can tap into a 12v power supply? I want the install to look clean, and would rather not have to plug something into the cigarette lighter socket.
In short, show me your install of bluetooth devices!
Why tap into the OBDII 12V source when you can just tap into the Accessory wire in the back of the radio? That way it's not a constant 12V and whatever you wire up will turn off when you turn the vehicle off.Densetsu wrote:Edit: Can I just tap into pins 4 and 16 of the OBD-II connector for 12V power? How much power can you draw from that before blowing the fuse?
I'm sure the wiring is all there, but the mic and antenna probably are not.naladude911 wrote:Question. I was looking through the 2001-2003 QX4 FSM (here on NICO btw), and it says that the QX4 has a built in Microphone, antenna, and wired for an Infiniti car phone. Anyone have pic?
Good call. No pun intended.Chuck Tribolet wrote:If you are mounting a hands-free speakerphone up on the sunvisor, you should be able to pick up power from the temperature/compass/reading lightsunit above the rear-view mirror. That's my plan if I can ever figure out whichunit I want.
Nice one. Beats running a wire up to the roof. I'll probably steal that idea. :PChuck Tribolet wrote:If you are mounting a hands-free speakerphone up on the sunvisor, you should be able to pick up power from the temperature/compass/reading lightsunit above the rear-view mirror. Is power to the OBD-II there all the time in the Pathy, or just when the key is turned on? I suppose I could go downstairs and check right now, but I actually made my own OBD-II reader for s***s and giggles and on the vehicle I was testing it on there was only power when the key was on.Pwnin O’Brien wrote:

I agree about installing a BT head unit. I love being able to hear people over all the speakers. It's also nice having in-dash navigation too.
First nice electronic device probably should be an alarm systemDensetsu wrote:A nice headunit is tempting, but having been broken into a few times has turned me off of installing nice electronics in my vehicles. Maybe one day...
I'm not too sure, I suggested the accessory wire because I thought you were putting something in place of the head unit or something.Densetsu wrote:Is power to the OBD-II there all the time in the Pathy, or just when the key is turned on?
