i just bought a 1989 240 sx with the sohc 2400 in it, im new to nissans all ive owned are hondas and fords, i bought it from a guy who had it set up to drift, it has tensioners on the back and if i turn the wheel at all at over like 20 mph it wants to slide and squeal tires. it has a lsd rear end out of like a 91 or 92 nissan, and it has rear independent suspension. im just wonderin what i could do to make it handle a lil better, i already took the tensioners and adjusted them down and its doin a lil better, but if i turn it to the right its like it wants to swing the rear end, then it comes back, i dont know how to explain it really, i was just wonderin if anyone had any advice for me

Being that you are not sure about anything on the car and are not familiar with the chassis, take it to a pro.At least have the alignment checked and adjusted for normal driving.

What do you mean by "tensioners" in the rear?Does it have an LSD or a welded diff?(big difference).

it has a lsd rear end out of a 91 or 92, i bought the car from someone who did all the work, and he called it a tensioner, i think its called an adjustable upper rear toe or something like that, illl look it up and post again to tell you

yes all 240sx have IRS, take it to some one who knows how to adjust suspension IE someone who can do alignments

well this is the only 240 ive ever looked at or owned or anything. so i didnt know they all came with independent rear suspension, and im going to get the rear end aligned in the next week or so. and now my head lights wont go down:/they were working fine the other day, then i turned them on one time now they wont go down, and my windshield wipers keep coming on at weird times, like when i turn the car on at first, and when i turn the head lights on, and sometimes when i turn the steering wheel...and ideas on what to do for that?

look in you wheel well on the driver side, look for some destroyed wires. as for the handling problem, i'd say you have a welded diff.

Very big differance.

OP, what do the tires look like? Are they worn evenly? Definatly sounds like a toe problem, or welded diff.

sounds like a welded dif to me to. you can cheak it easy to see if that is it just jack both back wheels off the ground put the car in nuetral and spin one tire while u have a frend hold the other if they both spin then you have a welded diff or spendall. as for the windshield wiper problem there is a spindall of wires that allows you to turn your steeringwheel and with out breaking them i forget the actual name of this part is called right now but wheen they go bad it causes weird problems like that i would put my money on it.

its not a welded, if i grab a wheel and my friend grabs one, and i spin my forwards the other one doesnt spin forwards, it tries to, but he can hold it. i think i just needs bushings, because it doesnt do the sliding thing anymore but it still "swings" out when i turn sharp and wide
