Hand Held Scanner?

Can i use any ODBII scanner to get codes off my 2000 infintiy QX4, or does it have to be very specific?

any works. a friend got one off ebay for $40 and it worked on my 99 q

"MOST" work, some are cheap units, and dont even work all the time, dont connect properly/ cant read the codes.

Some are very vasic, some just tell you the code, some tell you the code and let you clear it, which is all you really need with the internet.

But the more expensive ones give more detailed info that a mechanic would probly find helpful
