I ordered the Haltech E8 system for the 180SX. I ordered it from Tweakit on the 20th and it got here in about two weeks. The kit I ordered is herehttp://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...=1010I also ordered the air temp sensor and the injector plugs. I already had a 3BAR MAP sensor and will use the CA18 OE water temp sensor. Here is what came.I was very pleased with the customer service, I asked about getting the injector plugs and a rep directed me to the items and I just added them and the they shipped them together with the ECU and harness. The speed was really good when you consider to get to me it had to go to california where the military picked it up to ship it to my PO Box in Japan. I opted for the flying lead harness as it is my intention to lose as much of the factory wiring as possible. They aren't messing around either, the wire bundle is 8 feet long! They have tied off the wires into clearly-labeled sections for me, cool!

If someone just wanted to plug and play there is a great option right here.http://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...=2296the E8 is the middle-rank system, there is the entry-level system the E6X here in a flying lead configuration http://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...id=91If you are really going for broke they have the E11, Haltech's top-rank systemplug and playhttp://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...=5919flying leadhttp://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...d=529

If you are thinking one of these might be what you are looking for I invite you to check Haltech's site and look at what they can do.http://www.haltech.com.au/ecu_comp.htmIt will be a while before I get to installing and tuning this unit, I have no opinion thus far but I definitely give Tweakit a thumbs up!

my DIY Autotune harness is better. Every wire has its purpose stamped on it every 6 inches or so. It did cost me a whole lot though....

Anyway, get off your duff and get her running.

An unforeseen circumstance has thrown a monkey wrench in the works, I am out of money. Looks like it is back to exotic dancing. My gut will hang over my g-string now though, the tips won't be as good as they used to be.

It'll sit for a while. You'll lose interest and then you'll be compelled to not let your money go to waste and you'll go for the gusto and install it. Congrats on the step-up to a nice system, but you already know not to attempt to install until everything including your finances is in order. I Look forward to the install and if you need to pow-wow on this with me, just drop me an email.

That's 2K austrailian. The E6X is very affordable you just need to wire it.Well gots damned near no money but I do have a long in the tooth motor that just needs a head gasket, hmmmm. I am going to pull the head and try to figure out why it popped. I heard no detonation, felt no detonation and she was pulling smooth and strong. It was a 17 year old stock gasket though being leaned on by a turbo substantially bigger than stock so it would have only taken on *ping* to rupture the thing I am sure.I have the EMS, Gasket is pretty cheap, and I have an extra head that was already decked and ported. I think the best course of action is retop the existing engine slap the Haltech on it and get tuning. I can continue to save up and work on the frank motor and cut my teeth with the Haltech on the existing engine. I have a set of fresh 550s, all I am missing is a bigger pump that the R33 T pump that is in there now.

I have two days off this week back to back; I'll clear a spot in the garage and push the 180 in and get to pulling the head.

EDIT I just looked at the compression numbers I was pulling, 110 PSI just isn't good enough. I don't want to do all the work to revive a motor that is just going to start hemorrhaging pressure as soon as I crank it up. This, incidentally, new guys, is why I keep saying rebuild these motors when you get them. I have had this particular engine 10 years and it has been well taken care of but time and miles take their toll and it's just a fact of life that machines wear out.

Nice to see someone choosing a Haltech in this forums. I tune some of the rally cars running on the national championship in my country, and have some experience with different ECUs, including Haltech. One of the best things about Haltech is the great support they give their product. There are better ECUs out there, but for the money, you can't go wrong with a E8 or E11V2. The E6K/X is another story though, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The E6X is somewhat outdated. Its CPU is very limited, and Haltech won't continue developing it for much longer from what they told me. The communication between HalwinX and the E6X is poor at best, I have lost countless hours to synchronization errors or glitches in their program. Because of these problems I have started to charge more for installing an E6x than a E8/E11V2. Also the things you can do with the E8 or E11V2 (like VTC) compared with the E6X more than justifies the price difference in my opinion.

I went with the E8 for the extra outputs and the ability to run the Halwin software. The SAFC-like bar graph maps don't appeal to me. While the ability to run sequential fuel and ignition is great I don't think I absolutely need it. For the price though it was worth it and I can more easily migrate the system to a six if it is needed.

Using HalwinX (for the E6X) you can use the same 3D maps as with Halwin (E8/E11). The 2D bar graphs are the only option if you use the DOS program for the E6x.

the X just didn't impress me. I had a K I never used and the X just looked like a dressed up K to me. You seem to be confirming my suspicions.
