so i was driving in my friends 2.5s today and he just has the regular halogen low beams (no fogs), and his cutoff line is almost just as good as a projectors!!!! why is this??? i never realized the nice halogen cutoff before i put my HIDs in. Do the HIDs in halogen housings not have the same cutoff because there is just too much light with HIDs?? whats the deal??

there is no "cutoff" on a reflector headlight persay but more of a relflection and refration of light....the sharp cutoff you see with projectors is created by a blade behind the round lens and the shape is ..well...projected out much like a movie projector would throw an image....there is not such a modifier on a "reflector" housing which all alti coupes have..i mean ALL ALTIMAS...even the ones with HID standard...the difference in the HID oem housing is ...the reflector bowl rib pattern is slightly different behind the hid bulb...as most of us have pointed out in the past...this just causes the light to reflect a tad lower in elevation and spread....the HID's are much brighter so it needs this to not glare at oncoming traffic...the stock halogens do not...the "cutoff" ur noticing is a very well engineered combination of relfection and shadow caused by the unique design of the headlamp's interior shape.a true sharp cut off can only be accomplished by projecting it....hence all the requests for mod projector lights like the one i have been doing...hope this helps...
