ok this past saterday (some might remember the thread i made about it) i got scammed. i paid for Falken Tires, and got some bootlegg imposter brand tires. ne way, i went back today for my refund. i pleaded my case against them, and they didn't budge rite away. i explaind how i wanted falken brand tires, picked out the brand, and paid for it. wut i recieved was a no name tire. well the lady said "yes, wut you bought was a real FALKEN tire. if you don't believe me, i'll take you to the back and show you that it says 'FALKEN' on the sticker on the tires you bought".

"LETS GO", i said.

we get back there and i see a real Falken Ziex tire...

"ok now that is a real falken tire i see rite there" i said pointing at the nice tire. so she is sitting there w/ a stunned look on her face as she tries to find the falken sticker on the no namers. "well those are now under a new name, so thats why it doesn't say falken"..."those Ziex are real Falken tires, those down there are NOT. trust me, i'm not trying to look like a smart as$, but i know a falken tire when i see one".so no falken sticker on the "zexius" tire. she offers to switch me tires w/ sumthing else, i counter w/ a full refund request. she had to bring out the maneger to see if it was ok. he was real cool about everything. he even let me keep my sh!tty no namers on until i went out and bought my new tires. so i fought w/ "LES", and won my case.

I think i almost fell for a similar senario afew months ago when i needed new tires. I said i was looking for pirellis, toyo's or really and nice import tire, and the place says they have these tires called maurauders made by Yokohama. I searched the internet and couldn't turn up anything on it nobody sold the tires, so i went back after i ordered a different set (fulda assuros) and the guy showed me a pamplet on them read it through and through and no sign of anything about yokohama.

Its cool that they refunded them for you without putting up a big argument.

Good to hear you got your refund.

How the hell did you get jipped like that? Was it at a regular tire shop? What a shady-*** place. I like tire shops that let you watch the installer put stuff on--like NTB.

That's one reason we're hooked up with Tire Rack.

No bait-and-switch, no "seconds", no old ozonized stale tires from last year, no BS and no hassle.

Zexius tires are built in the same plant that Falkens are. Stamped with the same DOT codes.

Ohtsu owns both brand names. Ohtsu also makes an Ohtsu labeled tire.

You bought Ohtsu tires, some of the best rubber for your dollar. The sales staff obviously had a hard time explaining this to you.

And BTW, think about your position. You asked for a full refund. OF COURSE it had to be cleared by her manager.

Have fun with your Ohtsu tires. Falken just a side brand they make, along with Zexius.

There are plants all over the world. I think Michelin is one of(if not the top #1) company with plants in several countries, many in S. America.

Bridgestone and Firestone merged to BSFS, both still build lesser no names. Dayton belongs to them also..

Michelin Groupe is now responsible for BF Goodrich

Cooper has a brand called Dean

Ohtsu does Falken and Zexius

Toyo and Nitto are built side by side in the same plants

Wanli is built by South China Tyre & Rubber Co. and builds a near identical knock-off of the Yokohama AVS

The list is almost endless.

Just about any tire you buy will be from a company or country with a different name/reputation/image, so stop placing so much emphasis on the name, and start looking at important things like wear rating, load index, and speed rating.

ok so0o0...thats like saying its ok to be sold a Lexus, and when you get ur car you get a toyota. yea they are made in the same factory, but you buy a lexus for the name and quality. if i wanted some cheap *** tires, i wouldn't have requested Falkens. if they told me up front "these tires are a Falken subside co. called Ohstu", then i wouldn't have gone w/ those, and i woulda went for something else. no suprises. oh and they are SH!TTY TIRES.

actually the lexus/toyota analogy doesn't work, because there is no lexus in japan, so you are getting a toyota, no matter how you see it. Lexus is just a brand created to play w/the rich American psyche that they were not getting a toyota in the 1st place but a "luxury" car to compete with bmw or mercedez. Have you seen a landcruiser lately? A Camry? Same quality as lexus.

yea i know you're rite. ain't gonna argue w/ that. sorry i'm not from japan, but i shoulda realized that. it was the first thing that came to mind. but you know wut i mean... VW-Audi, Cady-Chevy, Lincoln-Ford, ect-ect. they told me i was getting "Falken" tires, and gave me something cheaper. i don't care if they are made in the same factory or not. i wanted some quality tires. the ones i got suck. my bald *** firestones were better than those.

NE Way, i don't wanna argue w/ ne 1 here. if ne body, it would be Les. it just pist me off that they said i was getting Falkens, and gave me Ohstus. oh well...i'm getting Proxes ne wayz..lol. peace out!

yep...i agree with what you say. If the tire used the same chemical compounds, engineering design, thread pattern, quality testing, etc.. then there would be no argument. however, there's no way to know that right off the bat.
