the number one cylinder eithe has a cracked ring or ring land. only had 45 psi with the other at 160'ish. i will have pics of the bad cylinder saturday or sunday. but i guess i get alittle moe displacement.

What's the compression on those? The top looks mighty flat instead of the recessed section most SR20DET's have. Did you get them for the SR20DE?

That does seem to look like an SR20DE piston. The dish is nowhere near what a stock turbo piston looks like. It looks too shallow. What CR is it? 9.5:1?

my mechanic called hecaty throttle or new piston and they said that the 93 ser pistons had the same part number and are the same thing, but you can visible tell the ones i pulled from the motor were deaper dished then the new ones. i didnt really have time to research it, he had the pistons ordered within a day and delivered within 4 days. this seems funny to me that nissan would put a ser out with only 8.5:1 commpression, and i was also wondering if they are forged like the det's?

so is this information correct, or should we take these back and buy different ones?

If I'm nost mistaken, DET's pistons aren't forged. The DET's rods are forged though. Also I have doubt about those pistons having a 8.5:1 CR. If you plan on going turbo, you probably won't be able to run an obnoxious amount of boost without running some serious gas.

my bad, i read it wrong, i thought they had forged rods and pistons. i really need to know what the CR ratio is for this piston in my car, i just want stock ones back in there. if i could get the same hp numbers out of lower boost with this high cr ration, i guess it will work.

You know, if you need pistons for the DET, I have a spare set (and rings). Unless you've replaced all 4 pistons with those VERY flat pistons, you'll have #1. a very high comp which won't be ideal for turbo unless you're running very low boost #2. balancing issues and risk other more serious internal problems. I'd find out what the other pistons on your motor look like before keeping with that piston, it just doesn't look right to me.

Here's what my CP's look like.

if you're interested, let me know which grade you need. I've got grade 1 and 2.

Those are defiantly the wrong pistons. The stock compression ones should have 54c written on the side. New model with have 75e on the top and older will have the 54c. If you need overbored pistons I have a set on ebay right now with rods and rings that are brand new.

here is the damage to the #1 piston, the rest are perfectly fine, bearings look great. i hate this, the cylinder walls still had the cross hatching on them. osaka (sp) should die a horrible death. i think i will return all the **** parts that were on the engine that i replaced..... just return them throgh their front window.

here is the good side

to show how much oil was getting past, there was definently no need for a wet compression check on this one, oil was dripping off the spark plug when i pulled it. and can you guys email me prices on those sets of pistons and rings. the cheapest "grade" that will do, im not building anything crazy. i just want to put it back to stock pretty much. thanks

The grade is in reference to the size of the piston, not how good it is. If you want some gooOOOOD pistons, take a gander at the CP's I've posted a picture of above, kinda pricey though.

Also did it score the cylinder wall at all?

it did score the wall, the OE pistons above are a half mm overbore. and we were planning on taking the block to get it bored out today.

those pistons for the ser you ordered are 9.5 to one in MOST sr20 engines. heavy throttle was correct IF they thought you had a GTI-R motor. that engine has a deep dish head and uses the same pistons as a standard 9.5 to one ser. every sr other than the gtir has a standar(45cc i think) head that will give you 9.5 with those or 8.5 with the deep dish pistons. you see, the dist has got to be somewhere. i also have the cp pistons (8.5 to one with .5mm overbore) and i checked every single dimension and could not find one single thousandth of an inch in variation. now, i am no machinist but i can use a micrometer and stuff. your piston looks similar to my number 4 piston that took a dump. broke some ring lands but the top land survived intact. oil all up in the head and stuff.
