I got stuck in the snow so I shut the TCS off to get out. I had to give her hell to get out. Well, I finally got out and my car would not shift out of 2nd gear. It would not upshift or downshift.

I shut the car off and restarted it and it was fine.

Does the Y33 have some kind of safe mode for the trans?

I remember people talking about it happening to them - excessive spinning apparently puts the transmission in safe mode.

I've even gotten stuck once on a hill I was going up with the Blizzacks. TCS is useless for this. I finally got out when the transmission when in fail safe mode from spinning tires too much. In fail safe, it stayed in 3rd gear and gave me the traction I needed. When I restarted the Q, the transmission reset and worked normally.

Well, it really didn't change your traction, just your ability to modulate torque delivery.

From the OWNER'S MANUAL!!!!

Quote »Fail-safeWhen the Fail-safe operation occurs, the next time the key is turned to the ON position, the indicator light will blink for approximately8 seconds after coming on for 2 seconds. While the vehicle can be driven under these circumstances, please note that the gears in the automatic transmission will be locked in third gear.

If the vehicle is driven under extreme conditions, such as excessive wheelspinning and subsequent hard braking, the Fail-safe system may be activated. This will occur even if all electrical circuits are functioning properly. In this case, turn the ignition key OFF and wait for 3 seconds. Then turn the key back to the ON position. The vehicle should return to its normal operating condition. If it does not return to its normal operating condition have your INFINITI dealer check the transmission and repair if necessary.[/quote]Just out of curiosity, how does the transmission fluid smell?
