I got to drive the hell out of these 2 lovely vehicles tonight to settle an argument between 2 friends I hadn’t seen in awhile, the guy with the M5 was very sure that his car was faster and quicker than the Z06, so to make a long story short I was handed the keys to them both and told to come back with a honest opinion, first off the M5 is a serious car, but I have few complaints, the dash is too busy for my taste, too many damn gadgets, im used to the clean look and ease of use of my Q, the ride was ok but the steering felt a little heavy at slow speeds, and the car had more interior noise than expected, however once underway it was an absolute monster, I had to keep the traction control on and that ended up being a good thing although it was somewhat intrusive into my driving style, the car pulled hard up to redline and showed no sign of letting up @ the triple nickel, all in all it was a joy to drive but already @ 38,000 miles and a clutch had been done and the car has been in and out of the dealership. The Z06 on the other hand has nothing really smooth about it , these 2 cars you really cant compare, the Z06 is really a brute where as the BM is just smooth and fast, right when I let the clutch out on the Vette I already knew who was the winner, the 385 Lbs of tq is something to enjoy, I had to pedal it all threw second gear just to get some traction, this car is every bit of a high 12 low 13 second car, but the fun really begins on the highway, pull 3rd up to 125 then grab 4th and hang on becuase thats when it reall gets fun, the sounds that comes from under the hood is just awesome, and even though it vibrates, hits bumps hard, and rides kind of rough it makes up for those little issues with pure horsepower, I called him on the cell phone and he told me to go from 5th to 2nd, I told him he was nuts but was instructed that it would be better than having the Q downshift to 2nd @ 70 mph, all I can say is that it was one of the best feelings ever to get a kick in the a%$ like that, sorry for the long post but for a car guy to get to do something like this really makes your night, and one more thing, the Q really impressed the BMW owner, he said that the Q felt better than t his car and that he loved the whole feel of it , he also loved how it pulled to 7400 rpms with no problems and how smooth the motor was even @ 192,000 thou on the clock.:)

Wow... great story.. what mods are on the Q. In all my vids i have.. Unless you know how to launch and race a Z06 the m5 will win by a car or so.... If the Z06 is 5Sp. But the Auto z06 will be the M5.

The Z06 was a 6 speed, as was the M5, its kinda cold up here right now so the Vette will get his arse handed to him from a dig, however I know from getting out of one and into the other that the M5 will get edged out by the Vette.:D , I have removed the rear sectoin of my exhaust and replaced it with 2 1/4 pipe and 2 resonators into 2 3.5 inch tips, JWT ecu and a modded airbox. I posted a video link for you in the dyno thread.

Thats what it felt like, Im telln ya that VETTE pulled like a frieght train, I honestly couldnt believe how fast it was, the Z06 turns 12.4s-6s, the BM 13.4s-6s so really its no comp.:D

Well Help me out is the M3 or the m5 Faster... I have a few vids of the z06 yes i said z06 getting barely beaten by M's. Trap speeds to me doesn't mean much. You can't judge a race by traps. I know someone back at Cali with a Boosted Integra Type R beating Ls1's and z06's.

M5 eats M3 on the highway. M3 is faster through real twisties.

I'll keep the Q45 for everyday on the street, thank you.

Given equal drivers, a Z06 will eat a M5 for lunch. Its trap speed in the quarter mile is about 10 mph faster, and it's much easier to launch. A Z06 is one of the easiest cars to launch on street tires I've ever driven. A good driver can get a low 12 second pass out of one bone stock. M5s are low to mid 13 second cars. M5s are really fast for a "big" sedan, but aren't Z06 fast.

I agree that the Z06 was east to drive for the power it was making, my only problem was that it was 35 deg last night so no traction:D also you could really feel the difference once the 2 of theme got going, but over all 2 very awesome cars.

I've been debating whether I should mod out my '95 540i (once it gets a transmission) or look for a 97 or 98 C5 vette. I'm thinking that for 1/3 the price of a vette I could buy a complete centrifugal supercharger kit. I think the Dinan is 6psi and 420hp on the 540i. The 4.0L V8 in the 540i looks remarkably similar to the Q's motor with an LS1 looking intake. Maybe I should see how much work it would take to centrifugal charge a Q? How easy is it to get 36# or larger injectors for the Q45? Are boost calibrated MAFs available? How about fuel pump requirements? I would think that a mustang style in line additional fuel pump would work.

Do to the rain we were supposed to recieve this weekend the Vette was rescheduled for next week, however I got mt lil hands on somethin else really nice, this is a friend of mines S4, this guy is a diehard VW freak so it was no surprise to me when he showed up with this.

This is one of the best v8 sounding cars I have heard, actually sounds better than the M5, a valve that opens and closes under exhaust load has been deactivated to stay open constanly, so you now have a straight thru design.

Yeah, those are cool. Isn't it amazing how it's shoehorned in there & half of the accessories are in the grill & front bumper?
