I got to drive the hell out of these 2 lovely vehicles tonight to settle an argument between 2 friends I hadn’t seen in awhile, the guy with the M5 was very sure that his car was faster and quicker than the Z06, so to make a long story short I was handed the keys to them both and told to come back with a honest opinion, first off the M5 is a serious car, but I have few complaints, the dash is too busy for my taste, too many damn gadgets, im used to the clean look and ease of use of my Q, the ride was ok but the steering felt a little heavy at slow speeds, and the car had more interior noise than expected, however once underway it was an absolute monster, I had to keep the traction control on and that ended up being a good thing although it was somewhat intrusive into my driving style, the car pulled hard up to redline and showed no sign of letting up @ the triple nickel, all in all it was a joy to drive but already @ 38,000 miles and a clutch had been done and the car has been in and out of the dealership. The Z06 on the other hand has nothing really smooth about it , these 2 cars you really cant compare, the Z06 is really a brute where as the BM is just smooth and fast, right when I let the clutch out on the Vette I already knew who was the winner, the 385 Lbs of tq is something to enjoy, I had to pedal it all threw second gear just to get some traction, this car is every bit of a high 12 low 13 second car, but the fun really begins on the highway, pull 3rd up to 125 then grab 4th and hang on becuase thats when it reall gets fun, the sounds that comes from under the hood is just awesome, and even though it vibrates, hits bumps hard, and rides kind of rough it makes up for those little issues with pure horsepower, I called him on the cell phone and he told me to go from 5th to 2nd, I told him he was nuts but was instructed that it would be better than having the Q downshift to 2nd @ 70 mph, all I can say is that it was one of the best feelings ever to get a kick in the a%$ like that, sorry for the long post but for a car guy to get to do something like this really makes your night, and one more thing, the Q really impressed the BMW owner, he said that the Q felt better than t his car and that he loved the whole feel of it , he also loved how it pulled to 7400 rpms with no problems and how smooth the motor was even @ 192,000 thou on the clock.
