I just had my head decked and my car is slower. I thought maybe I had an exhaust leak because one of my manifold studs was broke off so i went and got new ones put them in and now i cant get that bastard egr pipe back into the manifold. The threads look alright on the pipe cant see in the manifold though cant imagine that cast iron stripping out but who knows. I pulled my spark plugs and they are white. leaning out? if that pipe wasnt sealed in the first place would that explain my symptoms any ideas would be great. Thanks a lot

OK, This is a turbo KA forum, and if you do have a turbo ka, you wouldnt be using any EGR or stock cast iron manifold, move it to a different forum.

how much was it decked, was there a lot of carbo built up on the pistons? you may have raised the compression to a point where you would have to roll back timing. If you had this work done I assume you had to take the head apart to some degree, make sur all the things you touched are back as they should bee and figure out why you are leaning out, fuel is not there for some reason.

Thank you mad scientist. The head was stripped down. Im really not sure how much was shaved. I didnt really want the head decked but it was warped the gasket was still cool does that sound like any thing you have heard of( i didnt reuse the gasket) I cant figure out what made the head warp Im getting pretty stressed out I want to turbo it but everytime im ready something else is wrong.oh yea pistons looked great like new

the head warps because of 1 of 2 things.Heat, or detonation. With the head having been decked to an unknown degree, that motor will never be turbo.

Question - How did you get the broken exhaust manifold stud out of the head?

hey 95_240, next time, before you tell someone to move to the right forum, make sure you're in the forum you think you're in, and don't be such an *** about it.

i just snapped a manifold bolt and has to remove it...its actually very easy...

1=buy a set of bolt removers..they look like reverse thread drill bits..sort off

2=drill the reccomended hole into the center of the broken stud.....yes it can be done.....

then just insert the boklt remover and unscrew the broken stud....easy....

i did this with the head still on the car..and the with the turbo even in the way

I recently did the same thing, only had to heli coil the bolt hole afterwords because I damaged the threads in it when the bolt broke originally.

i had some dirt in one of my manifold exhaust bolt holes in the head...caused the bolt to strip the threads...i just retapped it with the same size tap...fixed the threads.
