Had a little accident involving some black ice and a curb a few weeks ago. I nailed the curb at about a 60 degree angle in the front passenger side which led to a nasty 180degree smack on the rear passenger wheel. I pretty much demolished my lower A-arm up front. Anyways, everything is fixed and fine(New LCA and Balljoint). Both my rims on that side are pretty mangled...Not bent, just severely gouged. Thats okay cause I was planning on plasti-dipping them in the spring anyways.

I got a Alignment just to be sure everything would be fine(Needed one anyways). Ever since the accident i've heard and felt a loud knocking sound/feeling in the rear end and the steering wheel was on the slightest angle to the left(thought it was a bad alignment). I figured it was either the spare tire or my ball and hitch I have sitting in the rear storage compartment. After removing the hitch attachments and checking the spare tire, the noise was still there. I ended up taking it into my work and putting it up on a lift.

This is where I got shocked. The rear driveshaft is mis aligned with the rear differential, the passenger side strut is pointing straight up, driver side strut is on an angle. My Torsion/Sway bar in the rear has a bend in it that was hammered out when I replaced the A-Arm. Turns out that my entire rear end has shifted over by about half an inch. This would explain the angle of the steering wheel. The noise is coming from where the Torsion/Sway bar attaches to the body. The bolt that holds it in the mount is just flopping around.

At this point, I want this thing to ignite itself on fire. I just had to spend $180 on a brand new DRL Module and another $360 for the Lower Control Arm and Balljoint. The check engine light also illuminated itself as it does monthly. I love this truck alot but it's starting to get a bit out of hand. I understand that this problem is my fault but would it even be worth to fix? I seemed to have done some damage somewhere. I dont believe a new Torsion/sway bar would even fix this. My Mechanics basically said I would have to take it to a Body Shop to see what they say.

It's going in for the rust recall tomorrow. Hopefully the thing gets written off. Do you guys think its worth fixing? Could it just be the Torsion bar?

Thanks!

I'd have a body shop look at it. They can get it up on a rack (perhaps a frame rack as well) and figure out what is actually misaligned. Then they can provide you with an estimate for repairs, which should tell you what the repairs entail. It may cost you a small fee to have them put it up on a lift,/rack, but if your not able to figure it out yourself, I think it would be better to know for sure.

It's in at Nissan right now getting the rust recall done. I'm praying to god that it's a write off. If that's not the case then I will replace the rear torsion bar and go from there. It was pretty bent when I first hit the curb so im going to say that it's the issue. I'll keep you guys posted!

You say you have a monthly check engine light. What's the code(s)?

There are several codes that can be thrown for an O2 sensor. Do you remember the specific code?

Replace the O2 sensor. You can get this Bosch OE-type O2 sensor from Advance Auto Parts for $50 before tax if you order online and pick-up in store using coupon code VISA. You'll need a 22mm or 7/8" oxygen sensor socket as well for replacement.

Remember...If I end up buying that 2003 LE i'm going to look at, I'll just clear the code and sell it ;) ;)

Certainly, I was just offering the fix in case plans fall through. :) The rear O2 sensor is inconsequential in engine operation unless the upstream sensor has failed, in which case the ECU uses the rear oxygen sensor to monitor things.

UPDATE! Took it to my friends shop today and had it looked at. Turns out he didn't have his impact wrench set to the proper PSI to the bolt never got tightened enough. 5 minutes later and its perfect again!
