Hello:

I've got a 2009 G37S coupe. Last year it developed a leak that took a while to get fully resolved. By February, the carpet would still get wet but the water pooling in the pan on the passenger side had stopped. I eventually replaced everything on both front drains. The car is now dry and has been for about 3 weeks.

About 3 months ago the speedo needle started going dark. At this point there was still elevated moisture levels, but, as mentioned, it was much much better. The speedo will occassionally work as it should, but most of the time its either completely dark or there's just a faint amount of light. The shop (Infiniti specialists) said its possible that the elevated moisture levels caused some corroision, which is now causing an electrical issue, as they'd seen that before.

About a week ago, my key fob didnt work. I got the "No Key" alert and car wouldn't start. I moved the key closer to the port (but not in it) and it started right up. I got this message several times over the next couple of days, but found I could push on the button a second time and it will start right up. This is happening with both fobs. I did change the batteries just in case, but it has happened again since then. Both fobs have been working in the last two days, but I've only had a couple of trips.

If it was just the speedo it would be one thing, but the key fob + the comments about corrosion have me concerned that this is just the beginning.

Is it possible that the moisture did lead to corrosion, which is causing these electrical glitches? If so, is this likely just the start of the problems? And is there anything I can do at this point, other than fix problems as they come up? For context, I'm in the Pacific Northwest so even witout a leak, there's moisture.

Thanks!

The I-Key Unit on most of the early stuff is in the kick panels, and most Nissan products are very vulnerable to water from sunroof leaks cascading down the A-pillars and invading the big SMJ (Super Multiple Junction) connectors located in the same area, in and above the kick panels. The SMJ's have no water/weather protection and a lot of small pins, and so do the smaller connectors around them. So it doesn't take much water or much corrosion to cause a mess. I strongly suggest pulling the left lower dash and the glove box to break and inspect any connectors that may have been dripped on or are located close to the carpet. Hit them with WD40 to chase any moisture, then contact cleaner, then dielectric grease to prevent any future corrosion. It's a lot of work, but a whole lot less than trying to repair pins and wires that are too far gone.

Have a look at this:
There is a large grommet right above the ECU/TCU that can leak.
My right pass floor was about 2" deep and the car was totally dead.
