Welp I figured Id at least start this thread...

Start from the top. been looking for a 300zx for a while and had a budget of $2500...Picked up this mess of a N/A 2+2 for $1800 with some decent body issues and motor issue. It was completely "riced" out...it had a wing on it at one time, and has massive 20" wheels, quite a few dents, horrible tint, and bad bondo jobs...it doesn't run to well right now but those problems are slowly but surely getting worked out and the Interior is in ehhh like 50% right now...

Image
Image
Image
Image

Future Plans
1)Motor Rebuild
2)Different Wheels(completed...200 bucks for all four)
Image
3)New Tint
4)Coil overs
5)New Black Interior
6)Back Seat delete
7)Sound
8)Drilled/Slotted Rotors
9)Custom Platidip entire car(until I can afford a good paint job)

Now I was going to do a complete motor swap w/ either an RB25(which I already have) or a TT...But I decided to make this into a good looking DD and either sell the 25 or save it for a later 240build and use the money I was going to use for the swap and buy a decent TT. I think in the long run it will be a better decision and Ill end up with 2 cars!
Ill be updating this as much as possible! Stay Tuned...

Well, you seem to be making good progress! keep it up. They're worth it once they're right. If I was you I'd throw that RB in it. I think that's the swap I'm planning on going with once I get out of college. I just personally like the idea of a Inline 6. Whatever you do with it the important thing is to make it yours, of course.

I think I've got my heart set on a vh45de with a single turbo setup for a swap...or I'm just gunna keep this a cruiser daily and but a TT with the money I was gunna use for the swap and then I'd have two cars but who knows...but I'll prob have an update buy the end of the weekend...

wasnt able to get as much done as i wanted to today due to a work meeting...but I did my injectors in! got a pretty good deal on ebay...400cc injectors w/ new plugs for 280 refurbished and a 1year warranty. So those will go in tomorrow!
Image

I also deleted my water lines under the plenum and degreased/cleaned it...god it was a gross mess before...
Image
Image

I sprayed it with industrial degreaser and let it sit for about a half hour before scrubbing it with a wire brush and then hosing it off...this is what was left over before I hosed her down
Image

So ill be painting the plenum and the balance tube in high temp grill paint(flat black) tomorrow as well as putting the injectors in and hopefully if the plenum gasket comes in ill have it assembled and ready to hopefully fire by the end of day saturday...also got a little adventurous and decided to try my plastidip color idea or the front panel...now mind you this was a quick experiment so it doesn't look the best but it gives you an idea of what the car will be when its ready to dip!(Matte black w/ gold flake)

just wondering how it put the FF to shame? as far as i can see that exhaust is $%&^ looking and the car would be one of the lower end of cars in the vid... ha ha no offense but the exhaust is killing me, and rice is the worst, and i have no tolerance for any rice or rice type matter put on a ZX. i might just be drunk, but rice is rice my man. im sure the honda guys that drive without a hood on and the melon cannon exhausts are looking for a good looking dd also, but look at how we see them.

in any case a 300 owner is one of us and i welcome you!

Yeah you are drunk because you obviously didnt read what i put...I bought it this way and am returning it to pretty much stock...it came with the giant wing, horrible falling apart body kit, 20in wheels, push button start, hacked up electronics, the giant exhaust, and a messed up intake...the kid basically put every ebay "racing" item available for the car on it...Im getting it back to the way it should be...and what I meant by Fast and the furious was the first/second one was all about rice...huge wheels/huge wings/body kits/fart cans...so on and so forth. the exhaust is whats on there now and will do for now until I can afford to put something a little more...classier on it...its def on the back burner as its not required for it to run correctly and it works just fine however I have every intention of getting rid of it...I picked the car up because it was cheap and i could work on it on my down time...

5)Replaced a Injector Cap with the correct "old style" cap
6)Got new Tires for the G35 Wheels as well as new Gold Lug nuts

I did get it started and It did sound like it was running better however there is a vacuum leak somewhere and it wont stay running with out staying on the throttle...it goes from 1000 down to 500 to stalling...All codes are good (55) so not sure what else could be wrong...Stay tuned!

Double check the driver side balance tube to plenum o-rings and connection. I had an issue when I put my plenum back on and the bracket for the IAA was under the balance tube.(I really wanted to get the car started again and was rushing towards the end.) Double check that all the hose connections on the TB's are capped off as well.

My biggest recommendation is to replace the old line with new rubber or silicone ones. Tracing vacuum leaks is a pain on this car at times.

Alright I think I narrowed it down to the Idle air control regulator...massive whoshing sound when the car is in vacuum(off throttle)...soo Im gunna replace that as well just to be safe the tps and coil packs...hopefully that gets it goin and then I can concentrate on the 120k kit as well as tackle the compression issue(if there is one...i actually havnt checked for myself yet...)...Also Theres a guy that says he can do the 120K kit for 1100...does that sound about right??? since i don't have any experience doing timing I want to have someone do it as compared to doing it myself...After that its time to start on the interior!

Looky what I picked up...As some of you know i grabbed it for 400 bucks...but it came with more than just turbos/heads and block...Its a complete motor...literally the only thing missing is the upper plenum...Awesome deal...drained the oil and zero metal chips...Super excited gunna build it up this winter and hopefully by spring time drop her in!!

So I was able to tear into the new motor a bit(not to much as I dont have a stand atm) and found this on the passenger side turbo...EW...looks like either a rebuild or just new turbos are in order...I was thinking T28s off an RB as a shop has a crap ton of them just layin around or maybe 25s off a SR...What do you guys think? anyone have any experience w/ these turbos on our motors??

28Rs do well on the VG30DETT, you will need new turbine housings and an adapter plate to fit a RB turbo set on a VG.

well…Its been a minute as I've been trying to get the z to run correctly the past couple months. I just decided to do a j30 swap on it for the time being until the TT is ready to swap in. Runs like a champ! Now onto the body work and Interior…updates to come!

Well Friends its been over a year(almost 2 lol) since I've updated...its been pretty slow as far as the rebuild goes but I'm happy to say that I daily my z and it runs perfectly...lots of upgrades. to start I had a JDM NA motor put in so at least i can drive it around no problem. I'm very happy with it! if you remember(or you can just scroll up) the kid before me destroyed this car. 90% of what I've done to this car has been undoing and redoing what he messed up. so far I've got drilled and slotted rotors, coil overs, full header back exhaust, newly recovered black leather seats, got the ignition fixed so no more push button, got a new aftermarket steering wheel, picked up a stolen lip and oem bumper combo, and relocated the battery. I recently started sanding it down and filling in some of the dents to get it ready for paint. its gunna be awhile for paint as i need to fix the rear passenger 1/4 panel. as far as color wise in torn with staying with some sort of black or going a different route with the toyota sunset bronze pearl...but for now it will be primer black. Ive been traveling a lot so $$$ is running low in the car parts fund but i try to scour craigslist to find cheaper 2nd hand parts(as with the stillen bumper) when i can. as far as future plans I think I'm gunna keep it pretty stock for now as a good DD and maybe Single turbo it in the future. I still have my TT on a stand in my garage waiting to be rebuilt and dropped into a shell as a dedicated "project". So here are some pics I've snapped to entertain y'all till next time!

Finally got the old nasty exhaust out...The rest was Galvanized fence post all the way back till after the cats...

and the new one looking good

I did all these upgrades in one day on my driveway with just jack stands lol...man i was beat after...

Look at this crap...since it used to have 20s on it the previous owner put blocks inbetween the springs to keep them from rubbing the fender...SMH

So yeah...still got a lot of work to do but its coming along nicely...next on the list is 2+2 rep. JDM side skirts and then suspension mods and finally paint...Ill do my best to keep y'all updated

back again...body progress is pretty slow...however i did get 2+2 JDM side skirts so that'll be nice once i get them put on!
Image

Also I decided to do a thing...NA-T coming in hot!!! I decided i wanted to go TT but do it on the stock NA. From people I've talked to as long as I use stock tt stuff(injectors/turbos etc) as well as a Specialty Z eprom I will be ok to run wastegate pressure on stock NA compression...and with the added compression i should be able to hit around 330hp(which is all i want for my daily). eventually i still plan to go e85 but for now this will work. Ive started gathering the parts mostly 2nd hand but still in good working condition from people upgrading their z's. so far I've gotten .48 auto turbos with JDM downpipes to connect to my NA exhaust system, full intercooler piping and intercoolers, 370cc newstyle injectors, the accordian intake pipes, stock tt manifolds and a stock tt oil pan...all thats left is the radiator and oil cooler set up! hopefully this will be installed and running in the next 6 months! All deletes and a minor tuck will be preformed at the time of install as well!

Image

Ill have a full picture one all the parts come in...now some of you may be asking about the tt long block I purchased for a song a while ago...I will be scavenging the manifolds, oil pan, oil feed lines and lower plenum/fuel rail for the NA-T project...then everything will be upgraded and built into hopefully a 700+hp beast and dropped into a shell for a dedicated "race car".
