So I believe all of the 1994-1996 G50s came with the Car Phone setup that has the built-in dash Mic & Speaker (possibly the 90-93s as well, not sure). So I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to try to hack into those lines and figure out a way to have their own built-in bluetooth setup with their current cell phone? I'm thinking there has to be a way this can be done, of course given that the mic and speaker are still working correctly after all these years. Any Q masters feel free to chime in with your thoughts if you think this is possible. Cuz I think it would be pretty sweet to have a built-in setup like this in a 20 year old car :yesnod

Nice thinking! the 90-93 came equipped as well. I have the hookup in the trunk and mic up front. I would start by getting the actual OEM phone unit and start from there so you confirm your speaker still works.

As far as I know, the microphone was installed at the factory, but there's no speaker. Maybe the factory setup used the speakers from the stereo?

I'm pretty sure the factory module used the stereo.. I remember seeing an actual OEM phone unit in a Q a while ago, and it's so antiquated that I don't think you'd be able to make it work easily. I remember the OEM microphone having some sort of weird outputs, it's not like a standard microphone..

My guess is you would probably want to get an aftermarket unit of some kind, and you could use an AUX adapter to run it into the stereo, and then maybe rip the guts out of the OEM microphone.

Note that on most GM cars with on-star, they have the microphone on in the headliner above the drivers head. Maybe that would be a more ideal location for a microphone anyway?

The factory phone would be useless today,as it was an analog type phone, whereas todays phones and network are digital based. The phone muted the stereo if it was on during phone usage, with the phone using the drivers side front speaker if i recall correctly.
