Has anyone on NicoForums gone HID retrofit kit for their '03-'04 M45 H3 fog lights? I am trying to see some pictures or hear opinions so I can get the right Kelvin HID bulb temperature color to match our factory standard HID driving lights.

Thanks in advance,xxNitehttp://rides.webshots.com/phot...lwhiE

I installed HID H3 8000K bulbs to match my headlights. My brother did the install, but it was minimal customization. Removed the foglight and drilled a larger hole to fit the bulb housing. The socket part of the bulb was squeezed into the new hole and sealed with silicone. Ballast was mounted on top of the foglight. The brand I bought was called ONEX off Craig's List, but if I were to buy again, I would get another brand. Color temp is not accurate, and even my 2 bulbs have a slight different color. But overall very happy with the setup.

The reason why the color does not match is because you got the wrong color. 8000K is way too high and goes to bluish-purple. The most approprate color is 4300K which I have done on my car in the fog lights. Installation took about 1/2 hour and am very happy with the results.

I actually changed my headlights to 8000K. The color difference was in one foglight where it looked more purple than the other one. But it was very slight. Overall, it matches the headlights pretty well.

I have 6K in mine--fairly easy install.

The factory is 4300K(someone correct me if I am wrong), so if you a want a match that is the temp to look for.

Thanks a lot, folks.

so 4300K seems to match the factory HID's the best, huh?

I have seen the new kits that have slim Ballasts and digital start that are based to fit H3 without a hitch or any modification for $65. I think I'll give these a whirl in a few.

My only other real question: is the light output sooooo blinding that oncoming drivers flash you a lot? I would think with beam pattern would be all over the place with so much light flooding the housing

There is actually a screw on the foglight housing that allows you to adjust the level of the light.

get outta here! I always thought that was simply for aiming the light up & down, not moving the inner shield forward & backwards to give more or less light?

KEWL!

That is probably why Akliquid has one fog light a little more "purple" than the other one, you think? he could probably adjust the screw to make them match the same light output.

Sorry, I meant that the screw is to aim the level of light up and down. I just aimed them lower not to blind people.
