People have run 31s with stock gears, but the truck will be a slug on the road, and you'll be hard on the clutch getting going. I'd stick with something no larger than a 235/75/15. You can clear those on a stock 2wd HB with some fender trimming, or a mild suspension lift, or a body lift.

Gotcha... Lets say i stack a 3in sus with a 3 BL and i run 35s.... What do you think about 4.11 gears running that. or what would be your recommended gear for 35s?

There's no way 35's will fit, even with stacked lifts. At best you'll be able to run 32s with that setup, and that'll likely still require some fender trimming.

On my '98 Frontier, I'm running 5.14 gears with 33's to get gearing close to where it should be stock. 4.11s will be terrible with rubber that size.

You're better off sourcing a 4x4 axle from a later model and rewelding the spring perches on the bottom of the axle so it'll bolt into the 2wd setup. later 4x4 axles will have much deeper gearing. For more info on this, read through the axle sticky at the top of this forum.

Gotcha. yah ive read through that axle list. the only reason i ask is because on my cousins D21 when fit 35s with 3in body and a 3in sus with no fender trimming. I just couldnt remember the gearing. Thanks for the info! Im probbably just going to settle with a pair of 33s with appropriate gears from 4x4parts.com... again Thanks

Seriously think about source a 4x4 rear axle...it'll already have lower gears and will probably end up costing less than a new R&P set and installation.

Also, the H190 is not a terribly friendly axle to regear, I've heard. I knew a guy that absolutely could not get the backlash right on an attempt to install 5.14 gears into one. The H233B is a much beefier axle (from a V6 Hardbody) and if you get one from an auto equipped truck, it should be geared at 4.625:1

If you go this route, you'll need the pinion end of the drivehshaft from the donor truck, as the pinion flange on the 4x4 axle has a larger bolt pattern. They use the same Ujoints though.

If I wanted to go spring over, but use the 2WD leafs, is there any modification needed?

if you go spring over with the 2wd springs on the 2wd axle with the 2wd spring perches youll have a freakin 6in rear lift on your hands lol..... Now if you grab the 4x4 axle you need to grab the springs that were on the 4x4... also you will have to reweld the perches

This just shows that I'm too used to lowering. But, could give me the opportunity to create those "special" shackles I was thinking of.

Hey Desert... Lets say i keep the H190 and go with the Re gear route... What would be a good ratio for 31-33s?

at least 4.62:1. Better yet 4.875 or 5.14. Not sure what all is out there for the H190. The one guy I knew who tried to regear an H190 apparently couldn't get the backlash set right due to lack of ajustaility side to side on the carrier.

You may have better luck, but it could be an expensive experiement. If you try it, you might be better off pulling a Junk yard 3rd member, trying it on that, and if it comes into spec on backlash, swap that 3rd member in your axle. Saves you the trouble of having to tear down your rear axle in the event it doesn't work out.
