The local tuner shop is selling a set of Gr-2's with H&R springs, they just so happen to fit my 97 200sx. They want $420 for the setup, not installed. First off, is that a decent price? Also, what kind of ride can I expect from this setup? Will it bottom out? This is my daily driver, I depend on this car, I cant have it scraping eveyrwhere I go. Its still on the factory 13's, which I plan on switching out for some 15's, for ride comfort. All comment welcome!

That price is about right. The ride will be a little stiffer than stock. Those shocks are OEM replacements designed to allow for lowering springs. It won't scrape unless you're coming out of a really steep driveway or the like.

Thanks for the info. I thought the only way to go was to get AGX's. So these are decent struts? For the price, they cant be beat. My struts are still the original, they've got over 120k on them...in other words, they are toasted. I might go pick these up and have them install them too.

I wouldn't use the GR2s unless I wanted to keep a car stockish and lower it. If you're looking at performance, get the AGXs.

What do you mean by 'stockish'? This is my daily driver, just back and forth to work, 130 miles a day. I wont be racing, drifting or whatever else goes on out there. I really dont want a hard ride, but I also dont like the nasty fender gap. I planned on just getting new struts, stock replacement, but this package deal came along. As far as suspension goes, this would be as 'modded' as it gets for me. Maybe a set of 15"rims with some 50 series tires. Anything other than that will remain stock.

if you are just looking to get rid of that fender space you might want to consider just getting a set of springs like eibach or tein or something similar. you'll save a couple hundret bucks and you won't have to replace the struts at all. that would be my suggestion to you unless your oem struts need to be replaced. you can get a new set of good springs for $200-$250. it will probably improve handling slightly as well.

also note, the larger wheels will have a thinner tire, which will ulitmately mean you will feel the road more. you should be safe with a 50 aspect ratio, but something to keep in mind because you mentioned "ride comfort".

I'd agree with everything you've said if he DIDN'T have stock struts with 120k on them. They have high mileage.

Werd, unless you have a B15...in which they don't make the AGX's. You could always check out Koni yelllows, but those are expensive. I think your ride will be fine with the springs and struts. I have GR2's and love the quality of ride with my TEIN s-techs.

Eh, pretty much any spring setup would kill what remains of the stuck struts anyway.

The GR2s are designed specifically so that you get a close-to-stock ride and can still lower the car. In essence, they're pretty much exactly what you're looking for here.

jbarbaresi is right about your ride, though. The 15"s will actually hurt it a bit, though I doubt you'll notice much difference as long as you keep your tire pressures in check.

Yeah, that sucks. A 50 series tire is still decent though right? Can I go 55 series on a 15" rim then, or is too much?

for every inch you increase the wheel diameter, decrease the aspect ratio by 5%. so if your oem tires where 60/13, go with 50/15. don't know what your stock tires are but you should be able to figure it out. yeah 50 aspect ratio will be fine, i'm running 45 on a 17 in wheel and it's fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. Rims are a few months away, so for now I will keep the 175/70/13's. Im gonna go get this setup this payday and see how it rides, should feel a bit friskier!
