I know its always best to have the proper offset wheels, but we all know that doesn't always happen. I also know that spacers are generally not a good idea for a multitude of reasons. I found the H&R trak spacers that are hubcentric and these seem to be the best option for me at the moment. The wheels in question are 17" with a +45 offset which is a FWD offset AFAIK. Nissan 240s are best at around 38 or lower correct?

My question is, since the wheels are a 45 and I'm looking for a 38 or so, would a 10mm spacer set them where they would need to be or should I go a bit larger to fill out the fenders?

Right now the wheels fit, but the car is in the Air with no engine/trans so I can't get a great idea of how much extra is needed, but I know I'm within 1/2" of the shockbody.

Can spacers be used to acheive the correct offset, at least temporarily and is my logic behind the sizing of the spacer correct?

A 10mm spacer will move the wheel out 10mm so you would subtract that from your wheel offset number. You are correct in the way you are understanding it. That would take you to 35mm. Before you do this, you have to measure 10mm out from your tire sidewall toward the fenders to see where you will end up on that side. It's important to check using the full travel of the suspension when you measure. Have someone push down on the front and rear when you check and turn the wheels lock-to-lock as well. Make darn sure the spacer fits snug inside the back of your wheel center bore with no slop and make sure you have the correct lug hardware to go with the spacers. you should have as much engagement on the threads as the studs are thick. If you have 12mm thick (not long but thick) studs, you should have at least that much (12mm) engagement on the threads. The spacer should fit snug on the hub as well. If you have any doubts, take the whole thing to a shop and have it checked for fit.
