First of all, Thank God for no slow motion shots! That Fiesta, to me, is 10x cooler than his subie. I like this video more than his other ones, and I will admit that he is a great driver. But, this just is losing the "shock and awe" effect. A lot of that was just doing donuts, and rehashing old tricks. He needs some thing new. I have to say though, that the little kid in me couldn't look away, and was left wanting more mindless destruction of tires.

Yeah, I'm sorry, that's still retarded. Makes me want a small awd turbo car (a $#!+ ton of money) and years to practice.

Thanks for showing us the most viewed video on youtube... :)

Ken Block is my hero. Bad a** entrepreneur and a world class driver. Pretty much my dream right there.

Pretty much, he's savagely mediocre in terms of the rest of the folks. Even Kimi is better than him and this is Kimi's first partially full season in a rally car.

He is a great driver. Obviously no where near the top of wrc or any other drivers...but he is good no doubt about it. Better than 95% of Nico(most likely). The thing is that all of these other drivers that everyone compares him to never really go outside of their type of racing to do interesting things like Block's videos.

He stepped out and made a great video showing people new sport(new to most) and got great attention from anyone who likes anything with a motor. It does help that he has a ton o money to do so but there is obviously some skill and some balls behind it. Alot of drivers are satisfied with what they do, and thats ok, but you can't progress once you plateau unless you step outside of the box.

I would rather be good at a few different things and have fun than be great at one thing and just be at work... but thats just my opinion

Dang, some of you guys are rough. WRC drivers are very high up the food chain when discussing the worlds best drivers. Geez, you should aspire to be that mediocre for car control skills.

LOL, I watch F1 mainly, so I'm used to a totally different level of driving skills =P

Block needs more practice and more experience in serious motorsports, not the silly stuff he's playing around with normally (x-games or this gymkhana stuff). Raikkonen has far much less rally experience than Block but he's already a better rally driver than he is because Kimi has a massive amount of experience under pressure (something Kimi feels little of in the first place) and years of driving at the pinnacle of motorsports. He has the benefit of climbing down the ladder rather than Block, who is having to a helicopter just to get to the ladder. Kimi is also treating his rally time with massive respect instead of an outlet for advertising DC shoes. Earlier this year Raikkonen was seen digging out a rally car he stuffed in the snow; people who know Kimi, know that this is something completely unheard of, as this is the same guy who got out of his car in Malaysia last year, got changed and started eating popsicles in the paddock while everyone else was on the grid in the monstrous downpour and waiting for the weather to clear.

Block has some talent, but definitely needs to think about being less of a youtube/viral celeb and concentrating on his chosen trade. It would be nice seeing an American doing well in a major FIA motorsport.

In the Q/A video, Block himself admitted he considers himself a long way off from being among the best, so he does not appear to have delusions about where he stands. The debate seems to be more among those that watch him. Since WRC doesn't run 12 months per year, I don't begrudge Brock from doing fun stuff like the Gymkana videos in his free time.

Who said mediocre?

Like I said, he is a good guy...

You kidding me?
95% EASILY, 100% most likely.

We don't even have any professional drivers on the forum do we?

Some HPDE instructors, and Joe, who no offense to him is an amateur drifter.

Ken comes no where close to living up to the hype, but he is a competitor at an international level in one of the hardest motor sports around.

Good guy with real talent, but watching some guy slide a car around a corner after 5 takes gets pretty old, especially while the whole internet goes ape s*** over it... that's all.

Yea, i just said 95% because I figured there would be those people saying why would you say hes 100%? Are you a f*** or some s*** like that.lol. I think he's good driver and myself and block is well aware that he is not near the top. Everyone has their own opinion and I think we have heard the only two so far(hes good or hes not.lol) so we can leave it at that.

I just enjoy watching sick a** cars doing crazy things for once. It's just cool to me to see someone who doesn't have to worry about money drive cool cars. Thats also why I dig watching Travis Pastrana jump his car and Rhys Millen do back flips in a trophy truck. Pushing the limit is what its about

Time sheet from an autocross Ken Block (driving an 08 STi) entered in 2007 as a guest appearance. He didn't even trophy in a very, very weak A-Stock class and STU times crushed his. Good comparison is Yeoh, who is a SCCA national level competitor (note: not professional, still amateur) driving a 2000 Subaru 2.5 RS in Street Touring, smashed Block's time by over a second at that event.

Ken is a Youtube superhero 1st, a viral sensation 2nd, a shoe salesmen 3rd and a driver somewhere around 10th.

who really cares though. I won't compare myelf to him but how about you run identicle courses and see how good he is compared to you and then you can say how much he sucks. That sounds like a good idea because most likely everyone who talks s*** on other drivers isn't as good as them to begin with. It's as easy as that

all im saying is that he practiced and still was sloppy for the video edit. im sure if tons of people on here went out at practiced driving in the same car wed still be havlfway decent...give him a not totally built car and then see how he faires...im not saying im amazing or anybody in particular, just saying id be more impressed if this video was like his first two.

Ken Block is a Danica Patrick I wouldn't f***.

Better than us normies? Sure. Bought himself in WAY over his head? Sure. Having fun? Sure.

So actually he's probably better than the Ice Princess. I bet she's only having fun when raking in ad money.

I dunno Jim. I don;t think its fair to condemn a guy's talent just because he didn;t do well on an autocross course he'd never seen before in a borrowed car. Everyone has their strengths and learning speeds. Being great in one dicipline does not automatically translate to making you instantly great at another. For example, Kimi and Montoya. both were in the top echelon of F1, and both are currently mediocre for WRC and NASCAR respectively. doesn;t mean they don't have a lot of talent.

Methinks if the course were longer, not marked with just cones and on dirt, the outcome would be vastly different.

As far as his marketing himself. All pro drivers will tell you that's a huge part of the job. You must constantly schmooze and sell yourself to land/keep sponsors. It is not enough to just be a good driver. He happens to be very good at the marketing angle. And I wouldn;t discount some of the stunts he did. Doing perfect donuts around a moving target (the segway), or in a small confined barricade area, or on a 30 degree'banked surface ain't so easy, requires a lot of practice. So what if there are tire marks that showed that he practiced?
