So my Kumho SPT's 235/45/17's have 22k miles on them and are effectively used up. The fronts are on the wear bars the rears are close. My TPMS light came on today although all the tires were holding air I decided it was telling the future and bought new tires.

There has been a lot of talk on NICO lately about General Exclaim UHP's and Falken 512/912's.

I heavily researched both of these tires and decided against them. Both have bad reviews for road noise and quick wear. Most of the good reviews are with less then 10,000 miles on them. After 10k miles the tires wear quickly and get loud.

I bought Yokohama S Drives, 235/50/17. I went up half an aspect ratio because my G bottoms out daily with the 45 profile tires. The Yoko's set me back $540 for a set + tax, disposal, mounting and balancing out the door for $680?

The tires will be here on Thursday so I should be hooked up and will take pictures then.

Dude, you're buying tires every month! You wouldn't want to, you know, buy some for me next month instead of for you or something like that because that would be really sweet so I could have sweet tires like you. (Purposefully made into a runon sentence for no real reason. Probably lack of sleep and it seemed like a good idea at the time.)

I know I don't have to tell you, but let us know how you like them. With just over 20,000 miles, it sounds like I'm going to be due for tires pretty soon by the talk of everyone else around here.

I'm sure they will be great!

I bought the Kumho's in December last year? If they made the Kumhos SPT's in 235/50/17 I would have bought them again. They are a perfect tire for Phoenix AZ.

The S drive Yoko's have a similar tread design. The two outer blocks are siped but otherwise they are SPT's

I've had the Yoko AVID's on my firebird...they lasted quite a while. Man, 17-inch tires are cheap!! 19's are double that!

Thanks for the reminder. Thank God, I got deals on all of my tires. I think my RE01-Rs put me back $200 including install and the RE050s were $140 installed.

Brand new, I would be paying over a grand for all 4 before install.

Yeah those are much better then the 512/912!

I might have bought those if they came in a 17" 50 series

17's are really the best rim size for a car from a performance outlook, 18' are the best for trucks and suv's IMO

One thing I noticed about the 452 Falken's is some of the 17" tires have a load rating of 87? That is LOW each tire can only support a load of 1200 lbs!

The Kumho SPT's I had were 97 load index that is 1600 lbs per tire the new Yoko's are 100's they can handle almost 1800 lbs per tire

If you're not towing heavy things on a regular basis the load index isn't too big a deal :-)

I feel like I got ripped off. Michelin SP2's. 245-35-19 and 275-35-19 a little over 300 a piece. Omg. They are a great tire but lets see how lon they will last.

I disagree,

at 1200lb per tire MAX weight your looking at a limit of 4800lbs. If you have a coupe and its loaded and automatic your probably already pushing 3800-3900 lbs curb weight. Now say your a fat *** 300 lb. Now with just your cars weight and you there is only about 600 lb reserve capacity. You can't cart around your 3 fat friends and their food without risking popping a tire.

At a low tire and a hot day an you have sidewall seperation and failure.

Additionally a low load index rating most likely means a thin or flimsy sidewall, so handling probably sucks! super high slip angle

I like 17s. I just want a wider rim. Like 8 or 8.5in.

Also Gwoods goes to the track. The forces of taking turns very hard can be very intense and traumatizing to tires.

Here is a little bible about the #'s.http://www.consumerreports.org...x.htmAlso good idea to check the date when it was made and should ask about how the rolling resistance on the tire.http://www.consumerreports.org...v.htm

Especially who always checking the gasmileage. Telco brother. Speking of him. Where is Telco?

In any case Gwoods....most of their tire load ratings are for 93y or above....and they do have a 17" 50 series tire...just not in the width you want

96 is good for a car it rates each tire at 1565lbs

W is your speed rating I think W is 168 mph

Yeah I saw that most were low 90's but some are 87 that would be a bad choice for any car over 3500 lbs. 93 is still only 1433lbs per tire. A thinner side walled tire will lean in a turn and you could end up sliding earlier then you would on a thicker side walled tire.

my track tires are 98w, stiffer side wall for racing! I want as much of the tread on the track as possible and no bend in the sidewall.

Well I got the tires on the car today. Put about 40 miles on them.

I'm not sure what to think yet. They are not as fast as the Kumho SPT's.

They ride a lot better but I think I traded some performance for comfort.

I WISH that Kumho made the SPT in a 235/50/17 98W XL! Those tires would be PERFECT for the G sedan.

Its raining in Phoenix until Thursday so I'll take some pics after it stops raining and I can clean the car and DRESS the tires.

same thing happened to me when i had a 50 ratio tire on my lexus

I had 215 50 17 and then i went to 245 45 17 and Wow what a difference! I felt like I was driving a old slush mobile made for old ladies in florida! and then with the 245 45 17's felt like i was on rails!

Yeah I miss the 45 series but I bottom out.... it was a hard choice to go from 235/45/17 to 235/50/17.

I ALMOST bought 245/45/17 but I have track tires now that are 245/35/17 and track tires that are 275/40/17 so that fine for racing.

For a 17 in rim 245 45 17 is ideal!

I agree 100% , I'm a salesman now so I do a few sales calls everyday, I bottom out all the time going in and out of customers parking lots. I had to go taller.

If I were still an office supervisor desk jockey 245/45/17 ftw!~)
