I have the (zenki) s14 SR in my 95 240 and it seems to runs sluggish when I gas it and don't feel much of a response up until around 4500 rpm. I think around 5000 rpm the vtc kicks in and then around 5600 i finally feel the turbo. I was just wondering if this was normal in your cars. I havent been in another s14 SR, so i have nothing to compare it too. But i have been in my friends s13 SR and it seems to pull alot harder in his car, like i feel the turbo way earlier and a faster response when he gases it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yeah VTC its like vtech, they just cant call it that so its VTC -Valve Timing Control

does it feel sluggish until 3200 like its not really responding to flooring the pedal?

VTC is not like VTEC because VTEC also controls the amount of lift of valves where as VTC only does timing of when valves open.

Because the engine will have more low end and partial throttle torque with the system.

VTC disengages at higher RPM, it doesn't "kick in".

VVL is Nissan's version of VTEC.

You have a boost leak, or the timing is not set correctly.

It doesn't sound like a VTC issue.

I've tightened all the clamps and checked for the boost leak, can't find one. I have a Defi boost gauge on it and when i gas it, the gauge reads 5psi and around 4500ish rpm it hits 7 and it peaks at 12. This is sorta odd too becasue I thought stock psi was 7. I'm not running a boost controller, all i have is FMIC, greddy 02 extension, downpipe, hks exhaust and intake. Is this unusual?

Yes, you should be hitting 7 PSI around 3000 RPM.

Check your turbo for shaft play, it sounds kaputt.

back when i worked for Nissan the 93/94 VG30DE maxima 4 cam motor had VTC and people would bring them in with a loud tapping sound and it was allways the VTC sprocket not opening up. I think i replaced around 5 sprockets back then. I dont think the 94 up sr ever had this problem.. but thats why i hate them !!

sounds kinda like a boost leak,or maybe leaning out or something do you have a wideband?
