still doing my research before purchasing my m35x, and wondering if guys with the m35x are having repeat problems with the steering after the rack and tires were replaced(need the rack replaced more than once etc.)? also do these problems exist with the rwd cars? i know this topic has been beat but just thought i would see some updates with more mileage on it as far as those who still have problems after the car was "fixed". because when i buy most likely the car will be higher mileage and i don't want to run into big issues/headaches

That issue was mainly on the AWD M35X. The rack has been updated so if it has been replaced, there should be no more issues. Get a used 08 if your concerns are that big. Or a late model 07, as the 2007 models were built with the updated rack.

i'm still having major issues with my 06 M35X. Been waiting on fix for about six months now. Consumer Affairs keeps telling me it will be out soon and I just keep documenting the promises.

Not to beat a dead horse. But I think the "steering rack" issue is a red herring. It was always the Goodyear RSA's...

Dear xsbc63x:

Don't believe any postings that claim the problem is with the tires. The problem is, unfortunately, with the steering rack, which Nissan refuses to replace. If you don't own the car yet, there is little you can do. For other drivers who have to deal with this dangerous condition my suggestion is to write to the National Highway Trafic Safety Administration and seek a recall of all '06, '07, '08 and '09 M35s. When NHTSA has a critical mass of complaints, it will ask Nissan to issue a Technical Service Bulletin, if not an outright recall. Buying new tires (which I have already done twice on my '08 M35) is an absolute waste of money.

You bought two new sets of tires and the problem persisted. Which tires were they?

The first set was the Michelin Primacy MXV4 and the second set the Falken ZE 912.

hello all, i am a 10 year infiniti tech in rhode island. i wanted to let you all know that have this issue that it is a problem and no matter how many racks are put it,it will come back. our tech line says that it is being investigated and once there is a fix there will be a bulletin put out for it. i have replaced many of the racks and most come back within 3 months. i will let everyone know when a bulletin comes out and what the fix is going to be so you can return to your dealership to have this annoying problem fixed. any question please feel free to email me at [email protected]. hope this helps

^^bump^^

I have an 06 M35x and am struggling with the steering issue. I already had the steering pump replaced to no avail. The problem comes and goes. The steering is nice and fluid one day and hard as a rock the following day. Sometimes a condition (good or bad) may last for months. Its almost like there is no power in the steering at all, it is almost impossible to steer and my poor wife has to drive the vehicle.

Any help is appreciated! Infiniti dealership wants me to let them replace the rack for a cost of $2000, I still have a feeling by the way the problem is (comes and goes) that this would be an exercise in futility and would just make me waste money.

Thank you!!
