Guys with ls2 coils Quick question

I ran into some issue's over the weekend with plug wires. Just curious if anyone else has.

First off I was running the stock coil wires which are 7mm and read 856 ohm's per sq ft.

I got some Holley 9.5mm wires that I made and got down to 26 ohm's per sq ft.

There is a HUGE difference in the OHMS on these wires. So I put the 9.5's on and The car went CRAZY! The car would not rev. It would only backfire, The ecu showed to shut down the coils down and re-start them randomly all at once! Which caused major issue's.

So I took those wires off, put my old ones back on and It was back to normal. Ran Great. So I put 2 of the other wires back on and again it ran great, I put 4 of them on and it went crazy again.

I assume the Resistence is so low on the wires they are interferring with the ecu somehow? IDK I have never ran into this issue before. Anyone else run into this issue?

That is odd that. I didn't know Holley made plug wires. And are you positive that they're 9.5mm because that's frickin' huge. Are you sure they're Holley and not something else??

I'm running MSD 8.5mm wires and haven't had any problems. The MSD's have 40-50 ohms/ft of resistance through the core and the RFI suppression winding has 1500 ohms/ft of resistance.

I'm wondering if the new set has the RFI suppression that the 7mm set has? If not, then it could be interfering with the crank trigger or CAS signal, whatever you have on that beast

Yup Darius pretty much hit it on the head. With that low of a resistance and no seperate RFI suppression (like the MSD wires have), you are turning that engine bay into an EMI/RFI superhighway. All of the high voltage will eventually couple itself to an important high frequency signal like the CAS or something and cause the ECU to go crazy.

Sorry my error there 9mm not 9.5

I really have no ideal if there RFI suppression or not. Which maybe the reason ir acted the way it did.

Im not sure if Holley makes wires anymore or not. I had a guy at the shop drop these off for me to try. So i did LOL

I'm guessing that they are for a carburated setup, but even then you'd want RFI suppression so that it doesn't interfere with the radio signal.

I'm confused unless they're intended for a strict drag car, in which case, it wouldn't have a radio in it anyways.

Thats what Im guessing. I got info from that guy and he said Holley no longer does ignition. But Basically it was for a drag application.

I don't have a radio so That part doesnt bother me.

Im guessing they was designed for a distibuter motor and Im guessing they must put out a different signals or something. Hell I didn't want to get this deeply involved LOL!!

That makes perfect sense.

LOL! One never thinks it is going to be as difficult as it sometimes is. And changing plug wires of all things LMAO! These damned car projects are always out to get us.
