To share your interests with and hang out with but at the same time, both members of the relationship should have their own opinions, interests, friends. No single person should be dependent on the other person but that other person should act as a catalyst for more individual growth. You can totally have a fully functional and worthwhile relationship while not having to depend on that person to feel fulfilled.

Doesn't anyone else on the board feel this way?

Take for example my current relationship: I go to my classes and he goes to his. We get together for dinner or to study together a few nights a week. We each have our own sports that we play and hobbies but once in a while, we get together to throw a disc around and play p0ker. It's not all serious omg i love you, i need you to be there all the time type stuff.

I see your problem Brit. But I have one question... what were you doing out of the kitchen?!!?!?!?! That's probably what the problem was.

Just kidding... I'm not a jerk!

I guess the problem is that with that kind of relationship, I just wouldn't feel fulfilled. Hey, if it works for you and your guy...more power to you, but I'd rather find a good tall bridge and a stout rope. The last girl I dated wanted pretty much exactly what you described, she's one of my good friends but we wont be able to be good friends again until I have another girlfriend because whenever we talk, we just end up arguing over what a relationship should be. She views my idea of the ideal relationship as unhealthy, and I view her life as unhealthy (she's a workaholic...just crazy I tell ya).

I agree with both Nathan and Vicki. Sometimes I want the falling-in-deep thing, sometimes I just need someone who will let me diddle their squishy parts.

lies Lies LIES I tell you! Anyhooooo... I'm kinda in between. I used to be completely codependant, and that worked for me except that I got hurt alot, and that sucked. I seem to have actually found a happy medium. I like being semi dependant on someone, and moreso, I like haveing someone semi dependant on me. In a way that if everything ended, it's not the end of the world, but you are both an important part of the others life. Do things for eachother, but don't wait on eachother hand and foot (one always ends up being waited on while the other takes it for granted anyway). HAPPY MEDIUMS PEOPLE, EVERYTHING IN MODERATION! Do these phrases still mean anything to anyone????

On another note, I think you a$$ scared off the starter of the thread. Great comforting techniques

Well see... he was the sweetest guy for the first couple months, but then i guess we got so comfortable with eachother that I started to see the real him. But of course I'm not hating on every guy. I know that there are Alot of nice guys out there, but it's just a matter of finding one. I was just mad when I wrote that. But F.Y.I we aren't together anymore. I couldn't handle it anymore and I'm happier now.

alot of people are guilty of "getting comfortable" so to speak, you never really truly know a person untill you spend alot of time with them (kinda like you never truly know a person untill you live with them).

i think that is why the first few months of a relationship are so exciting, because you keep finding out new things about the person you are with.

i also think that is why alot of relaitonships never make it past the first few months. after you find out everything about someone, it gets boring, i think the key to a happy relationship is to not spend every waking moment with them, to have your own thoughs, opinions, hobbies, interests, etc... it gives you something to offer each other.

i think vicki is on the right track.

It's hot and humid in Fresno. Cold and windy. Or Rainy and cold. Never anything good. There's just never "good" weather. EVER. It's like Arizona and Lousiana put into one.

But one good thing is less radicals.

Also, why are you not on AIM?

I dunno.... I don't see why so many people have relationship problems.I mean, I've had relationship problems, but they've all been the other persons fault. They're either psychotic or they just end up being too damn weird. The way I see it is, if you are your true self from the beginning and know what you want you can't lose. People either lie to themselves or to others. It's always one or the other. Everyone knows what makes them happy, people just settle for less expecting things to "miraculously change" because the person says that they love you. Well, don't hold your breath. Life is too short. If the person isn't what you want, dump the ****er. Hell, there's 7 Billion people in this world, if you can't find one damn person to love then I guess you're just such an ******* you might as well do us all a favor and kill yourself!!I mean, I'm not trying to sound like a pessimist, it's just that life is so short and I know it's so hard to find a nice mate that you shouldn't ever "settle". Take what you want and run with it. That's my motto. My current girlfriend, Bronwyn, is the greatest woman that I have ever met in my life. I didn't even pursue her, she wanted me. And the funny thing is I used to have a crush on her. When I asked her what she liked about me, she said " I couldn't read you. You showed a strange medium between apathy and slightly interested, and I couldn't help fall in love with you. And the fact that I found you sexy didn't hurt either." This is a direct quote, I remind you. So, I dunno. I probably won't ever totally understand woman, but damn, who will? Just be yourself, don't waste time with others that aren't right for you, and just be patient. Just be confident in who you are, and if they don't like it, **** 'em. Do that, and I'm sure things will work out for you in the end. Good luck!

If you haven't noticed, NICO has tons of anime/comic/videogame avatars to choose from instead of making/finding your own. There's 20 dudes with Rorouni Kenshin avatars, doesn't mean they know the anime or even watch anime for that matter.
