I've gotten stopped by 5-0 for other things, (tint, no front plate) but they didn't say anything about the HID's.

Once in a blue moon someone will flash their highbeams at me b/c my lights are def bright, but I've only run into issues with being pulled over for my tint, which is 15% (the percent used on SUVs and mini-vans back windows). The cost for my tint was $235, every window but the windshield.I just tell the cops that I work in Loss Prevention and I catch professional shop lifters for a living for Gap, Inc. - they usually let me off with a warning.

oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, in case you don't already know, most HID kits, if not all, are illegal and intended for off-road use only :-/

Why would they stop us??? Nowadays, almost every car out there has HIDs, either with projectors or without. I don't think cops give a $hit about it anyway unless you go crazy with 10k or higher temperature

I got pulled over for having dark tint, but never got flashed or pulled over by cops for hid lights. I got 6k for low beam and 5k for fogs.....

I think when I dropped my car lower, it also helps lowering the glare....it seems to focus on the road more now....which is a big plus!!!

its true, aftermarket HID kits are NOT DOT approved. Mainly because, if someone is buying an aftermarket HID kit, it is probably going into a housing that wasn't meant for HID headlamps.

When HID lights go into these, they can cause SERIOUS glare for oncoming traffic and is very dangerous.

The standard headlights in the new Altimas have a nice cut off pattern to the headlights. Thus, when HID lights are put in, although not perfect, they can almost pass for factpry HID's and most cops will not know the difference ! Usually, as long as the beam pattern isn't all over the place, then you'll be fine. But, if you were to put HID's into the headlights of, say, a 1995 nissan sentra, you will blind oncoming traffic!
