Sig 220? or one of the USP variants...I think there's a 220 with a rail anyway...

either of those will probably run 2-300 more than the XD though....Beretta might have an offering in what you're looking for...I don't know for sure though, don't much care for the company, I blame the 92.

i may be wrong on this as i havent sen the para ordnance catalog for a while, but i know they used to make DA/SA 1911 variants, and they were and are double stacked mags.

i dont like them as much due to how bulky they feel as my hands fit better on single stacks, but worth checking out if you want a more traditional 45 style with a double stack and possibly DA trigger.

Yeah, the sig keeps calling out to me but so much money.

What do you guys think about Rugers? I like the metal frame.

i know this may seem slightly odd, but the larger your hand sie the more likely yo are to like a ruger automatic. They are excellent guns, and are highly reliable. They are a bit cheaper (at least in VA) then most of the sigs HK's etc, but they are bigger and heavier. if you can get a few hours to go into a store and just hold the gun you will know fairly quickly what fits.

do you plan to conceal this gun for self defense use? it is doable but id look into an uncle mikes or fobus holster to hold it close to you and be fairly weather proof.

This is going to sound funny but I don't really carry much. I have a ccw but for some strange reason, I feel awkward carrying.

If I was going to carry, I would just carry my Sig though. Its a med frame so its small enough.

I just want a fun range pistol.

I'm more concerned about the reliability of ruger semi autos.

I've never heard anything bad of them.

can't really recall a Ruger that's had problems though...

I need to get a pair of SP-101's.

also, the Para guns are eithe single only or double only....the LDA is kinda weird...just doesn't seem right to have a doubleaction on a 1911...the pull is nice though.

get a Smith 629 Mountain Gun. 4 inch barrel...still accurate at 100yards or better and fairly light considering the gun. They've also got carry a lot shoot little Titanium N frame guns...

if you want .45 ACP like ballistics...you can just get some .44 Special loads for it..or just pack the full 240gr Magnum loads.

they're excellent pistols.

Don't be a wuss, get a Smith and Wesson 460.

799 for an 8 3/8s barreled model at http://www.cdnninvestments.com

I'm sorely tempted at this point.

Would make a great hunting pistol for my kid.

Ruger recently put out a 4 inch Redhawk too...suppose to be a sweet gun...and stupid strong.

I want a 4 inch 500

because I love overkill in a CCW weapon.

I'v shot about 200 rounds through it at the range. The sites are off really off. 5 feet away I have to aim about 5 inches low and 2 inchs right to hit within an inch of the bull.

It also jams. Which most 22LR pistos do, but it is annoying. And I have tried 3 ammo brands

The wooden grips come loose.

And last Taurus customer is messed up, two months ago I ordered a different set of grips and a a second magazine and I have not recieved anything yet. I call almost daily now, and they will get it out asap.......... for a month

I wish I would have just gotten the Keltek, its a little bigger, but a nicer gun.

I hear you on that, I've got a Taurus fixed sight revolver that is off by a few inches to the left. On mine, I actually noticed that the barrel was not quite threaded in all the way (skewing front sight off to the side slightly), also resulting in a cylinder gap you could almost park a car in. I'm trying to decide whether to send it back to factory on warranty. Probably gonna have a gunsmith look at it and give me a quote, it'll probably be competitive with the shipping charge.

I got a new gun today. Just a little peashooter.

Its a Desert Eagle.

Just in 357mag though, I wish I could have gotten one in 44mag but they are too expensive.

it's a licensed Seecamp copy.

I want one in .32NAA

I've got a Taurus PT911 that I can hit half a brick with at 40 yds consistently.

Is that like the emergency model that you use when someone is having a heart attack? Or do you use it to report drunk drivers?

Ahh I though they were inported right from Israel, but the design was American, guess not I dunno. But yeah I'v only shot the .50 and you know there was no point, ammo cost too much. You cant conceal it, and it was too damn loud for a side arm.

But my Taurus is brand new, its very similar to the bobcat with the flip barrel, but they are very different. I did a lot of research before getting a pocket 22 and the Taurus seemed like a sure thing.

But lets be honest its a 2 inch barrel its not going to be accurate, but the sights should be better at 5 ft.

But my budy has the el cheapo 1911 by Taurus, samething, not accurate. But then again it was only $550 new where my SW 1911 ran me $1300

I'm getting my first SIG when payday rolls around. It's the model 225 and was issued to German police. It'll need to be refinished, but for $319 I'm not complaining. Probably send it to Robar for an Np3 finish and dehorning treatment.

it's an Isreali design that's now made in America.

I want a Galil...it's a sweet rifle.

rofl at the PT911...it's a nice pistol...it doesn't point too good in my hand...but it's accurate...and a pain in the *** to find a holster

From reading I gathered that the Gun was designed in 1979 by Magnum research a US company based in Minneapolis, MN who also owns the patent, but the arms were produced by IMI in Isreal for a number of years and imported by Magnum research. Production was then moved to the US in the year 2000 where they were being made by Saco Arms. As to history aftet that I have no idea, one website said production was back in Isreal. But from what I gather is that Magnum has the arms made for them.

Jesus you Americans have a lot of guns..

Uh, sorry if this thread is like 5 pages of people asking this, but: Suggestions for an entry level pistol for target shooting? Basically what I should look for and why, would be nice.

For something cheap to learn on you can get a great package deal on a Smith and Wesson SW9VE or SW40VE and. They are pretty accurate, come with 2 magazines and a case for about 300 bucks.
