I'm curious to see how many of you possess a license to carry, and if you do frequently in your Q. I find the center console/seatbelt to be rather uncomfortable, and usually unbuckle my holster and let it ride high. I've been pulled over before and scolded for having it on the passenger seat...as you may know, in 1986 there was a horrific shootout involving the FBI that resulted in great loss of life. Many FBI policies were changed immediately, and one of them was for officers and agents to always have their firearm holstered, and never leave it on the seat or dashboard. Revolvers also made their exit as standard FBI carry because they don't do well when soaked with blood. Semi auto for the win!

It's a good read if you don't know anything about it, whether you carry and shoot or not. Also the reason I practice 100 yard shooting with my pistols, in case some incompetent shot can't take down a bad guy, I can SING at 50 yards!

I carry a Beretta 92FS daily - what do my other Q drivers in here carry?

How about a double barrel 12 ga over-and-under or Benelli Super Nova 12 ga pump for skeet, trap, and duck season?

Here in Texas, a Concealed Handgun License isn't required to keep either a handgun or rifle in your vehicle (God bless Texas!). The only requirement is that the weapon MUST be concealed.

As it turns out, NOT having a CHL is actually a benefit during a traffic stop: The police are automatically notified about the CHL when a motorist is stopped, which - depending on the experience level and temperament of the officer - can lead to some unnecessary tension and drama. Also, until recently, CHL holders were required by law to inform the officer about their license during the traffic stop - while non-CHL motorists were under no such requirement. For this reason (along with the belief that I don't need the State's permission to exercise a basic Constitutional right), I have elected to not get a CHL.

Anyhoo, I've found that the bottom tray of the Q's center console works perfectly for handguns - It's not as likely to be accidentally opened as the the top tray, and yet still provides quick access. My preferred Q-pistol is a CZ-75 Compact in 9mm (14 + 1 round capacity).

Even though the trunk of a Q isn't particularly roomy, there's still plenty of space back there for a trunk rifle or two. My trunk rifle is an AR-15 built around a DS Arms ZM4 flat-top upper, Calvary Arms CAV-15 MKII lower, Trijicon RX-30 reflex sight, and Streamlight TLR-1 LED weapon light. A 20-round magazine helps further reduce weight and bulk. Right now, the rifle rides in a soft nylon case, but I've been entertaining the idea of welding up a trunk rack for it.

I ride with my Colt Defender compact 1911 .45 in stainless in a holster inside the back of my belt. I've been carrying like that for a long time and it does just fine. I'm not real big on sticking my firearm away in an armrest, it kind of defeats the purpose of having it handy. Not very many bad guys are going to give you a minute while you find your gun and get ready.

I carry a Kimber compact Ultra carry 2, 1911. I'm with Buck, I carry mine in my hip holster when driving. It's a little uncomfortable but quick access.

There's not really any "finding" to it - you flip the console up and grab it. I'd bet that it's faster than trying to extract a gun from your pants while sitting down and strapped in under a seat belt.

It probably is faster however my center console is currently home to my air ride controls and nos switches.

yeah, honestly, I think it might be faster to grab it from center console vs. holster, under jacket, by seatbelt.

BUT, if some a** comes up to my car with a gun and demands I get out, my "seatbelt reach" is quite convenient - whereas I'm not going to have much reason to open my center console without pissing him off.

I assume then, since you all talk about at the ready, that like myself you carry condition 1...people that carry guns without one in the hole always make me wonder. You aren't going to have time to rack it, if your life is that in danger you are pulling out a gun to take a life, you don't have time. It's like they say, "when seconds matter, the police are only minutes away." Be ready, not kind of ready.

CZ75, cool pistol, just the other day a guy wanted to sell me one. I liked how it felt, very unique. Thinking about a M&P 40, my buddy just picked one up and it feels great, although I'd really like to pick up a 1911 for the centennial! I'm in the works of locating a FN FAL right now, they're banned in MA but if I can find one pre-94 that was reg'd in MA pre 94 I can get it. Found one a few hours away. Hmmmmm.....

Nice to know 2 Q45 AE's rolling around in such style and so well armed.

"A guy cruises thru a stop sign, and gets pulled over by a local policeman. He hands the cop his driver's license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit.
"Okay, Mr. Smith," the cop says, "I see your CCW permit. Are you carrying today?"
"Yes, I am."
"Well then, better tell me what you got."
Smith says, "Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There's a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I've got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot. There's a .45 in the center console and another .22 under the hood."
"Okay," the cop says. "Anything else?"
"Yeah, back in the trunk, there's an AR15 and 4 shotguns. That's about it."
"Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range...?"
"Nope."
"Well then, what are you afraid of...?"
"Not a damn thing..." "

I agree that it's pointless to carry a modern handgun without one in the pipe - not much better than carrying with a trigger lock on it! Of course with rifles, it's not so cut-and-dried: There are some rifles with safeties you simply can't trust 100 percent.

The CZ rides in "condition 1-1/2" ...Round chambered, but decocked. The 75 is SA/DA, so a long first trigger pull cocks and fires it. It's the same manual of arms as several other pistols and revolvers in my family, so it's familiar and consistent.

Officer: "Any firearms in the vehicle?"
Motorist: "What - did you lose yours? If you're looking to borrow one, I'm not loaning any out!"

Same with my beretta, one in the hole but decocked. SA/DA, long DA pull.

I carry a compact 9mm 1911 concealed in a daybook holster on my left side using a belt hook. Once in my Q, I unclip it from my belt and hook it on to the seatbelt. I haven't been stopped yet but it meets the Florida standard for both concealed carry and "securely encased".

If I were righthanded, I would probably secure it in the center console unholstered as described above. In Florida, securely encased does not require a holster, locks, or any such devices, just have to consciously open something to get access.

My holster clips inside the back of my belt, I can reach my gun very quickly with my right hand. No obstruction from the seatbelt and an inconspicuous motion to get it out and into play. That works for me, and is much faster and cleaner than having a gun in the center console. The bottom line is do what works for you. But make sure it really works for you. Think of a carjacking and what you're going to do. Fishing your gun out of the console is probably not going to be any better than having the gun locked away in the trunk. Just be sure what you're doing, be confident and be safe. And don't waste your time listening to some idiot who tries to tell you what's faster or what he gets stuck in his pants.

Well, here in sunny Southern CA you just never know what each day or night may bring.

Much like food, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Man, I can't have those fun toys here in MA. My 18 round mags aren't even legal, such BS! I can carry 10 guns with 20 mags on me, but can't have a mag over 10.....nope, too dangerous....also no 50's.....

I have a close friend who does executive security and he often carries his full size 1911 just slid into the side of his jeans at the right hip. No holster, just stuck in there snugly. I've tried it and it works great. Again, a good way to just have your gun accessible. Wherever you carry it or keep it make sure you practice getting to it and bringing it to the ready.

BTW, my favorite gun to carry is my Ruger Vacquero in .45LC with a birdshead grip. Some mean hollow point high pressure rounds in that bad boy make me feel right. Just sayin.

I carry my .45 ACP Star PD in a Galco "Royal Guard" horsehide IWB holster. Easy to grab quickly, and with the safety on, completely safe with one in the pipe, as the safety locks the sear, hammer, and slide all at the same time. Easy to flip the safety off and c*** it on the draw. I also have 3 spare mags, just in case, all filled with Federal 230 grain Hydra-Shoks. I keep it in what's called an "appendix carry", that is, behind the hip on the strong (right, for me) side. I can easily reach it with my seat belt on.

AZ has no restrictions on open carry or concealed now, so I use the same holster, whether covered by a shirt or jacket, or with the handle visible with a T-shirt tucked in my pants. I have yet to be questioned or had a problem with passers-by with my gun visible, but sometimes, I like to keep it concealed, depending on where I'm going. For church, I wear my PD in a Galco "SkyOps" holster that allows a shirt to be over the gun, but tucked between the gun and pants, with my shirt bloused over the gun. It's completely invisible that way, and easy to pull the shirt off of it and draw quickly. It was designed for Sky Marshalls, hence the name "SkyOps".

I used to use "Mexican carry", that is, inside the waistband, appendix position, with no holster. Did that for MANY years, and with a true gun belt cinched snugly, never lost it or had it come out of place running, jumping, etc. Now I use the Royal Guard IWB holster, and am very happy with that.

I NEVER go anywhere without my gun.
